HoYoverse is sure ramping up the mystery and drama in Zenless Zone Zero's version 1.7, Bury Your Tears With the Past. The story will focus on members of the Mockingbird faction, Vivian and Hugo. In version 1.6, Phaeton encountered both of them in the main story where they were both after the Sacrifice Core, only to be stolen by Hugo, who was apparently colluding with Hartman Ravenlock. While Hartman was able to get away with the Sacrifice Core, Lycaon pierced through Hugo, who fell off the building.
After Hugo disappears into the Hollow, tensions between Mockingbird and the elusive TOPS faction start to boil over. The Ravenlock family is accused of attacking Mockingbird, which sends shockwaves through New Eridu and sets off a wave of political unrest. As the chaos spreads, Proxies find themselves teaming up with the graceful yet formidable Vivian, diving into her shadowy history to learn more about the Sacrifice Core and the true intentions of the Exaltists.
This chapter takes Proxies into enemy territory—deep inside Ravenlock’s stronghold—with Vivian by their side to retrieve the stolen Sacrifice Core.
In the meantime, the mayor brings in a high-level investigator to support the operation—and yes, based on the dev blog released must this week, it’s a preview of Yi Xuan, the Void-Hunter level investigator.
Zenless Zone Zero 1.6 new banners: Vivian and Hugo
Vivian
Vivian, an Ether Anomaly Agent from the Mockingbird faction, brings a refined yet formidable style to combat. Wielding a parasol that transforms into a rapier, she flows between Noblewoman and Fluttering Frock states, executing swift aerial assaults with Flight Feathers and parrying enemies with Guard Feathers.
Her unique Featherbloom Attack activates when allies use their EX Special Attacks, even while she’s off-field, allowing her to seamlessly support Anomaly-focused squads. Vivian’s Prophecy ability inflicts Ether damage over time, boosting the team’s Corruption capabilities and enabling potent status effects throughout the fight.
Vivian’s banner will run on the first half of 1.7 alongside Jane Doe’s (Physical Anomaly) banner re-run.
Hugo
Hugo, an Ice Attack Agent representing Belobog Heavy Industries, battles with a high-tech briefcase that morphs into a deadly scythe. His combat style combines rapid combos with sweeping area attacks, culminating in a scythe throw followed by explosive slashes. His EX Special Attack features a rising spin strike, while his Totalize mechanic enhances damage dealt to stunned enemies—the longer the remaining stun duration, the greater the impact.
Hugo excels in team comps with fellow Stun or Ice characters, where his synergy amplifies Chain Attacks and the destructive power of Totalize.
Hugo’s banner will run on the second half of 1.7 alongside Lighter’s (Fire Stun) banner re-run.
New Bangboo: Robin and Overtimeboo
The next S-rank Bangboo is Robin, a phantom thief from the Mockingbird faction. With her mysterious flair and sleek aesthetic, Robin brings a unique style to the battlefield.Robin’s weapon of choice is a magic gun that fires random playing cards at enemies. These cards come in three varieties, each producing a different effect.
Its tactical utility increases when teamed with other Mockingbird Agents—if one is present in the squad, Robin will shoot specialised cards tailored to the on-field Agent’s specialty, enhancing team synergy and offering better support in combat.
Overtimeboo is a new A-Rank Bangboo introduced in Version 1.7. Overtimeboo begins working diligently at a computer, visibly growing more stressed as the workload piles up. Eventually, the stress becomes too much, and it charges at enemies in a burst of pent-up energy.
Events for version 1.7
Flower Shop Event: "Say It With Flowers"
In this time-limited event, Proxies will help Orchidea run her flower shop and create custom floral arrangements for customers. The goal is to match pots and flowers based on each client’s preferences, combining aesthetics with attentiveness.
Completing certain tasks will unlock Free Arrangement Mode, along with additional rewards—including the A-Rank Bangboo Overtimeboo.
Players will also receive a commemorative photo of their work in the flower shop, and the feature will be accessible in Agent Quality Time Mode for extra interactions
Bangboo Bash Event
A crowd-favourite, Marcel’s Adventure, is making a comeback. Now named Bangboo Bash, it now features ranked matches to challenge Proxies even further. Performance in matches earns ranking points. Players are tiered into five ranking levels, with the highest being Diamond Carrot—a prestigious mark that unlocks exclusive rewards and event-limited titles. Rankings also display server-wide standings, adding a competitive multiplayer angle.
For added fun, Proxies can invite friends to join the event, making the Bangboo Bash a lively social experience on top of its chaotic gameplay.
A Tale Through the Looking Glass
This involves an unconventional novelist coming to New Eridu, and the Proxies will help them pen a new tale. As each chapter unfolds, choices must be made to steer the direction of the narrative. Agents can also transform into “bookspirits” to support the protagonist throughout their journey.
Springtime Snapshots
The director will assign filming tasks, and it’s up to the Proxies to scout the right locations, bring in the right Agents, frame the perfect shot, and press the shutter at just the right moment.
Savor the Flavor: Citywide Delivery
The chef behind Breaded Belief is back with a fresh pop-up event! Each day, the Bangboo chef will pick one lucky customer, and Proxies will be in charge of taking their order, passing it along to the chef, and delivering the finished meal.
Optimisations in Version 1.7
- Drive Discs - after the update, all Discs, whether locked or currently equipped, can be flagged for discard. If you lock one again, the discard flag will be removed. Managing your inventory is about to get a lot simpler.
- Notorious Hunt is also getting streamlined. After exhausting your weekly free attempts, you can now choose between No Reward Mode or Pursuit to the Depths right from the results screen—no need to backtrack to the stage menu.
- Quality Time Mode - Agents will now have fully voiced lines when taking photos in Quality Time.
