MLBB's MPL Singapore returns for Season 9 with new community-driven initiatives

MPL Singapore Season 9 features an all-new Challenger Stage open to community teams.

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Singapore is set to return for Season 9 this May and introduce new community-driven initiatives to integrate the community with the tournament itself. One of these new initiatives will be the new Challenger Stage, which will serve as a place for community teams to participate in the MPL Singapore Season 9 Playoffs.

MPL Singapore Season 9 will bring the Regular Season directly to the community with a roving format for the first time. From 10 to 25 May, fans can witness esports action at various locations nationwide, including Bukit Panjang Plaza, Westgate, and Lot One. The league said in a press release that this expansion beyond a single venue creates more touchpoints for the nation to engage with the competition and rally behind local talent.

MPL Singapore's Regular Season has also been revamped to integrate grassroots talent into the esports scene and now features four stages: the Seeded Stage, the Challenger Qualifiers, the Challenger Stage, and the Last Chance Qualifiers.

The Seeded Stage, hosted on Saturdays, will feature familiar competition as five invited MPL Singapore teams go head-to-head. Simultaneously, up to 64 community teams will compete in the Challenger Qualifiers, with the top teams advancing to the Challenger Stage hosted on Sundays. The Challenger Stage will also give the Top 4 community teams a chance to compete against the invited MPL Singapore teams.

At the end of the Regular Season, the Top 4 invited MPL Singapore teams will secure direct Playoffs spots, while the fifth-placed team will be ranked against the Challenger Stage community teams. The highest-ranked team from the ranking will then claim a Playoffs spot. The remaining four teams will advance to the Last Chance Qualifiers, where new and eliminated community teams can rejoin the battle for the final Playoffs spot.

The Playoffs will feature the best six teams from all of Singapore and compete for the opportunity to represent the nation at the Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2025 at the Esports World Cup 2025.
