Nintendo Switch 2 game upgrades for Kirby and Super Mario Party cost more than The Legend of Zelda

The price of upgrading some of your favourite Switch games to the Nintendo Switch 2 will vary per title.

Nintendo has confirmed the upgrade pricing for more Nintendo Switch games ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch, but the costs differ from title to title. Upgrade prices for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Tears of the Kingdom have been published on the UK Nintendo Store, each carrying a different fee.

Upgrades for both Zelda games are priced at US$9.99. In contrast, the upgrade packs for Kirby and the Forgotten Land Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree  Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV cost UK£16.99/EUR€19.99, both of which are more than double the UK£7.99/EUR€9.99 price for the Zelda upgrades. This suggests the U.S. price for these packs could be around US$19.99.

Upgrade features vary across titles

However, it looks like the main reason for these price variations are the upgrade features that come along with it. The Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade for Breath of the Wild offers visual and performance improvements, achievements, and compatibility with the new "Zelda Notes" feature in the Nintendo Switch Online app. These additions aren’t available by default unless you’re subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online with the Expansion Pack, you’ll need to pay the upgrade fee.

Meanwhile, Kirby and the Forgotten Land adds new story content through the Star-Crossed World expansion. Super Mario Party Jamboree includes a fresh content suite called Jamboree TV, which takes advantage of the new Joy-Con 2’s mouse controls, the Switch 2’s built-in microphone, and a USB-C camera that will be sold separately. Both titles also boast enhanced visuals up to 1440p in TV mode, better frame rates, new mini-games, and improved online functionality.

At the time of writing, neither Kirby nor Mario Party offer free upgrades for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members, unlike the two Zelda entries.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live on 24 April, priced at US$449.99. Demand has already exceeded expectations, with Nintendo warning customers and the U.S. customers who pre-ordered via the My Nintendo Store that delivery on release day is not guaranteed due to high demand.
