Gears of War: Reloaded sees the original game go multi-platform.
Xbox Game Studios has officially announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the original game that features 4K resolution, 120fps support, cross-progression and cross-play in multiplayer, and a multi-platform release. For the first time ever, the 2006 video game will launch on PlayStation hardware, alongside PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Gears of War: Reloaded to launch on PlayStation 5 this August
The Epic Games-made 2006 third-person shooter Gears of War is getting yet another remaster this year. The game originally received a remaster called Gears of War: Ultimate Edition in 2015 from current franchise developer The Coalition. Now, The Coalition is going back in with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief to remaster the game once more.
Gears of War: Reloaded includes all of the content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, with all post-launch DLC, bonus campaign acts, multiplayer maps, game modes, playable characters, and cosmetics available at launch. The game supports split-screen two-player co-op, and Versus Multiplayer with up to eight players with cross-play enabled.
As for the game’s upgraded technical features, here’s what Xbox says fans can expect from the remaster:
- 4K resolution
- 60 FPS in Campaign
- 120 FPS in Multiplayer
- High Dynamic Range (HDR)
- Dolby Vision & 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos
- 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio
- Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
- 4K assets and remastered textures
- Enhanced post-processing visual effects
- Improved shadows and reflections
- Super resolution with improved anti-aliasing
- Zero loading screens during Campaign

Besides these features, Xbox states that the game will include “platform-specific features” to “make the most of the hardware you already own,” likely in reference to PC players. Gears of War: Reloaded will also be a free upgrade to anyone who purchased Gears of War: Ultimate Edition digitally prior to this announcement, with a code for the game being DM’d to all players separately.
Gears of War: Reloaded will also hit Xbox Game Pass when it launches on 26 August, 2025. The next installment in the franchise is Gears of War: E-Day, also in development at The Coalition.
