The upcoming Dune MMORPG has been delayed to June.
The highly-anticipated MMORPG Dune: Awakening has been delayed from its original release date of 20 May. The game, based on Frank Herbert's Dune novels, will now launch on 10 June, 2025. However, pre-order customers will be able to access the game five days earlier on 5 June.
Dune: Awakening release date pushed back to June
Game publisher and developer Funcom has announced that it's delaying the release of Dune: Awakening by three weeks. Funcom attributed the delay to feedback supplied by early beta testers, which led the developer to conclude that it needed “a bit more time to cook.” In a social media post, it wrote:
“[...] we've concluded that with a bit more time to cook, we can act on a lot more of the feedback we know is important to our beta testers. As such, we will be moving the release date of Dune Awakening to June 10th, with head start launching on June 5th. This is not a decision we take lightly, we know everyone is very excited to get playing, but these three extra weeks will give us the time needed to make improvements that will lead to a better gameplay experience from day one."
However, there is some good news: thanks to the delay, Funcom will now launch a “large-scale beta weekend” sometime in May. The developer concluded by affirming that “Dune: Awakening is a beast of a game. This is multiplayer survival on a massive scale, and we're making gameplay and technical strides not seen in the genre before. We want to make sure we stick the landing."
Dune: Awakening is set in an alternate timeline in the Dune universe, wherein Paul Atreides was never born. The player-created protagonist will serve as an undercover agent working for the Bene Gesserit. The game is also set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sometime after its PC release.
Dune: Awakening will launch on PC on 10 June, 2025.
