The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered screenshots surface on Virtuos website

The remaster of the beloved RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was leaked, after images surfaced on the Virtuos website.

The existence of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has been accidentally leaked, after a string of screenshots were found on Virtuos' website. Screenshots and comparison images showed off the beloved 2006 RPG's remaster, the development of which seems to be headed by Virtuos. These images highlighted significant visual upgrades, including enhanced lighting, detailed textures, and improved models.

The leak occurred on Virtuos' website on Tuesday, 15 April, briefly allowing anyone to access various screenshots and logos. While the images were quickly removed, the Internet never forgets, as numerous outlets have since mirrored the screenshots and images.

The remaster is reportedly being developed using Unreal Engine 5, which overlays modern graphics onto the original game's mechanics. While release platforms for the remaster have not been confirmed, the leaked images confirm that an Xbox Series X|S launch is lined up, at the very least.

As we await an official announcement of the remaster, the leaked details have already sparked excitement and debate among fans.

While the upgraded visuals have been praised, some fans have expressed concerns about the remaster's colour palette, which appears less vibrant than the original. The lush greens and bright fantasy aesthetic of Cyrodiil seem to have been replaced with a more muted tone, reminiscent of Skyrim.

Originally released in 2006, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was a groundbreaking RPG that set new standards for open-world gaming with its large world and interactive narrative. The game also has schedule-driven NPCs, and engaging quests that earned it critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase.

While a release date for the remaster hasn't been confirmed, current reports suggest that Bethesda and Virtuos plan to shadow drop the game as early as next week.
