Magic: The Gathering is slated to drop Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants cards on 25 March.
Magic: The Gathering and its Universes Beyond initiative have expanded into the world that is Bikini Bottom, and players now finally have a preview of the upcoming Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants cards.
First teased a while back in MagicCon Las Vegas last year, Collider announced yesterday that Magic: The Gathering will be releasing three different Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants drops on 24 March.
The first drop Secret Lair × SpongeBob SquarePants: Legends of Bikini Bottom features Magic: The Gathering legendary creatures reskinned as famous characters residing in Bikini Bottom.
The most notable reskins in this drop are SpongeBob SquarePants as Jodah, the Unifier, Patrick Star as the vanilla legendary creature Barktooth Warbeard, and Squidward, Sarcastic Snob as Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar (who is technically a Forgotten Realms character from the world of Dungeons & Dragons).
It does seem like a wasted opportunity that the SpongeBob SquarePants did not get the SpongeBob wizard treatment, last seen in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (released back in 2004), since Jodah, the Unifier is a legendary wizard.
The second drop, aptly named Secret Lair × SpongeBob SquarePants: Internet Sensation, is where all the fun really is. Cards like Counterspell, Force of Despair, and Night’s Whisper now feature some of the top class SpongeBob memes found on the Internet, and they are absolutely on point.
The last drop, Secret Lair × SpongeBob SquarePants: Lands Under the Sea, is a collection of basic full art lands showcasing some of the most famous locations in the world of SpongeBob SquarePants like Bikini Bottom, Jellyfish Fields, and Kelp Forest, as well as a Food token in the mould of a Krabby Patty.
SpongeBob SquarePants is an original animated comedy television series created by Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. It first premiered on 17 July, 1999, and has since become a worldwide phenomenon.
Sales for the Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants drops start at 12am (GMT +8), 25 March, 2025 on the official Secret Lair website.
