The God of War TV Series showrunner has announced that season 2 has been greenlit, even though season 1 has not been released yet.
The showrunner of Amazon Prime Video's upcoming God of War TV series adaptation, Ronald D. Moore, has confirmed that Amazon approved two seasons of the upcoming show, during an interview with fellow Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff. While Amazon has greenlit Season 2, Season 1 of the series hasn't been released yet and is still in pre-production.
"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in."
During the interview, Moore also noted that he wasn't a gamer, albeit enjoying classic arcade games such as Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He also said he “took a stab” at the game, but couldn't figure out how to work the controllers, and was confused about the location of the R1 button.
Moore was brought on to serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the God of War TV Series. He worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation and was also the showrunner for Battlestar Galactica in 2004.
The God of War TV Series was previously slated to be helmed by Rafe Judkins, before Moore took over the position for the upcoming TV series adaptation of the beloved Ghost of Sparta. Executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus also left alongside Rafe Judkins. Santa Monica Studio’s Cory Barlog and Yumi Yang remain executive producers on God of War.
This won't be the first time Amazon has handled the God of War IP, either. The series was included in the Secret Level animated anthology in Episode 15, albeit briefly. The series also included other game titles like New World, Honor of Kings, and PAC-MAN.
God of War (2018) followed the story of Kratos, a former Greek god of war who tries to change his fate in the land of the Nordic mythology. Following his wife's death, he embarked on a journey to spread her ashes at the highest peak in the nine realms alongside his son, Atreus, while hunted by the gods of the Nine Realms.
