Dungeons & Dragons live-action series in the works of Netflix
Netflix is officially working on a live-action adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons, according to Deadline. The TV series has two major talents attached: Shawn Levy, who directed various episodes of Stranger Things for the streamer, and showrunner Drew Crevello, who co-created the Apple TV+ series WeCrashed.
The project is currently titled The Forgotten Realms, which serves as a campaign setting for the renowned tabletop RPG Dungeons & Dragons. It also happens to be one of Dungeons & Dragons’ more popular settings, housing iconic characters and stories, such as those seen in Larian Studios’ critically-acclaimed RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, and the 2023 live-action movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
According to Deadline, Crevello is writing the pilot and will serve as series showrunner. Levy and Dan Levine will executive produce the series with Crevello. Hasbro Entertainment is also involved in the series’ production, which has been a top priority at the company since 2021. Originally, the series was planned for a debut on the Paramount+ in early 2023, but it was eventually retooled.
Netflix’s The Forgotten Realms currently does not have a release date. The TV series will reportedly have no ties to 2023's Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie, which happens to be quite good.
