Onimusha: Way of the Sword is Capcom’s latest entry in a long-dormant franchise.
Capcom is bringing its long-dormant action-adventure franchise Onimusha back to life with an all-new sequel. Titled Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the game brings back familiar elements from previous games – like hack-and-slash action and absorbing the souls of downed enemies – with a fresh coat of paint.

New Onimusha game revealed at long last
Capcom’s Onimusha game franchise, first launched on the PlayStation 2 all the way back in 2001, has been all but dead for quite some time. A remaster of the first game was released in 2018, but seemingly proved unsuccessful in sales, and the last console release of the franchise was 2006’s Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.
In 2026, things are changing for the better. Onimusha: Way of the Sword sees Capcom return to the supernatural franchise with more bloody sword fighting and undead samurai. Its visuals appear pristine and all-new thanks to Capcom’s in-house RE Engine, but its gameplay will be very much familiar to Onimusha fans.
Now that Onimusha is finally coming back, there might be hope for Dino Crisis fans after all. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches sometime in 2026.
