Operators, are you prepared to play Red Light, Green Light?
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone are getting new content for the midseason update launching later this week. Despite packing this update full of new content for players to dig into, both games are still making room for another collab with one of the biggest Netflix TV series to date: Squid Game.
The announcement was made on Tuesday (December 3), just a few weeks before the release of Squid Game Season 2 on December 26, 2024. Squid Game became a cultural phenomenon when it premiered in 2021, rocketing up viewership charts to become Netflix's most-watched series of all time. Its story focuses on a deadly survival game in which participants play childhood games to claim a hefty ₩45 billion cash prize—with one small caveat: if they lose the games, they get killed.
Netflix has been heavily promoting the new season, and it looks like Call of Duty is now a part of that marketing tour. The franchise's new crossover teaser was pretty short, featuring a Black Ops 6 operator dressed in their typical attire. However, the Operator picked up a card with Squid Game's iconic circle, triangle and square symbols. As the camera zooms in, one of Squid Game's most recognizable soundtracks plays before we see the Call of Duty logo, which gets the Squid Game treatment.
The crossover is happening in January 2025, although there were no additional details shared in the post. One possibility is that this crossover involves the usual mix of skins and cosmetics—where players can dress up as either the guards or players from Squid Game. These skins and other cosmetics could be packaged together as a bundle in the in-game store, or earned as a reward. Activision has not confirmed any of this yet however, so we'll have to wait for further updates to that end.
Call of Duty has been known to release major collabs across all its titles, teaming up with other games, TV series, and more. These crossovers include Tomb Raider, Fallout, Dune, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2023, and The Boys, Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg in 2024.
