Only a short time remains before the next World of Warcraft expansion goes live, so we take a look at just what you need to be able to play.
World of Warcraft is heading into its tenth expansion instalment, as The War Within sets the stage for the Worldsoul Saga. While players accustomed to the game already will know the story, the game has taken us through the paces for 20+ years – and things certainly have changed along the way. One of the more promising aspects of the game which has not changed much, (although it may depend on who you ask), is the relatively low system requirements.
Some things barely change
When it comes to World of Warcraft, one reason it has maintained a steady player base over the years has been the ease of access to nearly anyone with a PC. Over the last 20 years, while system requirements have certainly increased with the demand, WoW has kept itself on the borderline of low-to-medium end. That’s not to say that higher-end systems do not fare much better at certain times, but at entry level, WoW is definitely doing well to give everyone a chance.
There are very few essentials required to play WoW, with the first and foremost being purchasing the latest expansion, and the second being a stable internet connection. Next on the list comes a keyboard and mouse – although controller support does exist, there can be a lot of buttons to press, which might seem rather daunting for a new player. Lastly, a Solid State Drive (SSD) is on my list, as it cuts loading in any game down. With all that said, there is one major drawback that could make many avoid the game, and that is the requirement of a monthly subscription, over and above the purchase of the latest expansion, in order to play.
If you are someone who is looking for a new game to play, maybe World of Warcraft is for you – and with a new adventure beginning on August 26th, 2024, this could be the best time to start your journey in Azeroth, or even make your triumphant return as The War Within gets ready to kick off The Worldsoul Saga.
