Honor of Kings continues its tradition of introducing new mechanics every month to start the new year.
Honor of Kings has revealed that Donghuang would get the seasonal skin, dubbed “Sky Devourer”, for the eighth season of ranked matchmaking. The roamer is the third hero after Luara and Guiguzi to get a seasonal skin since the game's global launch. And just like the previous skins, you must reach a certain rank in the season to get it for free.
Aside from the new skin for Donghuang, Honor of Kings also announced a new mechanic for the first month of Season 8 called Summon Sprite. Players can summon a Sprite when they plant its seed in the brush. The summoned sprite can help push the lane with its auto attack and healing ability. It will also slightly heal the player's hero and minion waves periodically until it disappears.
There is also a new system called Dragon's Hoard. So far, Tencent has not provided details, though it is expected to be a new draw system introduced for Season 8 onward. Honor of Kings also announced they would upgrade the Honor Pass rewards for Season 8. However, like Dragon's Hoard, no details were given on how it will be implemented.
Also, the game will feature at least two new heroes for its eighth season. The previous season introduced a staggering six new heroes: Dyadia, Meng Ya, Shi, Mi Yue, Yixing, and Xuance.
The new season will officially launch on January 9, 2024, simultaneously with the end of Season 7. All Limited-time Tokens and previously unobtained seasonal rewards will also disappear when the season ends.
