RRQ has disbanded its Brazilian squad after three years in operation.
Indonesia-based Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) powerhouse RRQ has disbanded its Brazil branch, RRQ Akira, after three years of operation in the MLBB Professional League (MPL) LATAM. The announcement was made on December 31, 2024 in a post thanking all the members and listing their achievements.
RRQ Akira dominated the MLBB scene in their home country of Brazil as well as the greater Latin America region. After being established in 2022, the team quickly showed flashes of potential as they went undefeated in 33-straight series, winning the MPL Brazil Season 2, Liga LATAM Season 2, and MPL Brazil Season 3 in the process. RRQ Akira's streak was ended when they were defeated by S11 Gaming in the M4 World Championship, where they finished in 7th-8th place.
RRQ Akira's local dominance continued into their second year, when they won every regional tournament that they entered after the conclusion of the M4 World Championship, namely MPL Brazil Season 4, Last Victory Invitational 2023, MPL Brazil Season 5, and Liga LATAM 2023. However, their run in the M5 World Championship wasn't as stellar as their previous attempt, as they were taken out in the Group Stage.
Following their disappointing performance in the M5 World Championship, RRQ Akira's dominance in Latin America also waned, especially after the merger of MPL Brazil and other South American regions into MPL LATAM. While they still won the first season of MPL LATAM, RRQ Akira failed to repeat their success in the following season and performed worse in the M6 World Championship by failing to get out of the Wildcard Stage.
After three years of playing together under the RRQ banner, it will be interesting to see where all the players end up once MPL LATAM Season 3 starts later this year.
