Blizzard is calling Diablo 4 Season 4 its, “biggest update yet,” bringing massive changes to the game later this month.
If you’ve been waiting for Diablo 4 to finally deliver on its long-promised itemisation changes, good news: you’re getting that and much more when Diablo 4 Season 4: Loot Reborn drops on May 14 (10am PT). Blizzard Entertainment calls the upcoming season Diablo 4’s, “biggest update yet,” with gameplay changes that will affect many of its core systems.
Diablo 4 Season 4: Loot Reborn is changing the game
Diablo 4 Season 4 is officially titled Loot Reborn, which is an apt name for a season themed around itemisation changes. According to Blizzard, these updates are so huge that they're going to be applied across both the Seasonal Realm and Eternal Realm, affecting all players equally. The update aims to fix criticisms of Diablo 4’s finicky loot game, streamlining itemisation so that loot becomes both easier to understand and more impactful to player builds.
Season 4 reduces base affixes and makes them simpler to understand so that players can evaluate the usefulness of their items more easily. If they want to customise their items, they can now use a feature called Tempering by going to a blacksmith and choosing from available recipes. Tempering will randomly attach an affix from the recipe to the gear, and recipes will be bountiful in-game.
The Codex of Power will also now play host to every single legendary item, allowing players to imprint the best version of a legendary onto their gear - putting aspect crystals out of work. A new type of affix called Greater Affixes will be available on Ancestral drops in World Tier 4, rolling bigger values than normal. When players have an item with enough affixes to satisfy them, they can upgrade these affixes by using the Masterworking feature.
Season 4 will also add a few endgame activities to test your most powerful builds. The Pit is a new system that will challenge players with maxed-out builds, rewarding them with rare materials to continue Masterworking their gear. Helltides also have new activities to offer, providing a little more variety to players looking to grind through them.
Accursed Rituals can be found in Sanctuary and activated to attract demons for a battle of survival, after which the Blood Maiden will arrive as a mini boss to test your mettle. Iron Wolves are also looking to fight the Blood Maiden, and players can join them to progress through the new Call of the Wolves seasonal activities.
