Akuma is coming to Street Fighter 6 with a new redesign this spring.
Capcom has dropped a trailer for its latest addition to Street Fighter 6’s roster of playable characters: Akuma. Akuma will be the game’s 22nd fighter when he joins the roster this spring, and he comes with an interesting new design too. His signature red hair has been transformed into a mess of white locks, but don’t be fooled - he looks just as fearsome as ever.
Watch the trailer below:
Akuma joins Street Fighter 6 this spring
Akuma is Ken and Ryu’s master Gouken’s younger brother, usually serving the role of a secondary antagonist in the Street Fighter franchise. The character first appeared in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (1994) as a hidden boss, but this time around he’s getting a redesign that sees his usual red locks replaced by long white hair. Capcom might be trying to give the character a more aged-up look, though he otherwise seems just as menacing as he’s always been.
Akuma will become Street Fighter 6’s 22nd playable character when he launches sometime this spring, which means that he’ll also pop up in World Tour mode as a master with his own set of missions to complete. His unique Gokuento stage, which was shown off in the reveal trailer, can also be visited in World Tour while taking him on as a master. Battle Hub events and more features will be part of Akuma’s release patch, marking an end to the game’s first year of content.
That doesn’t mean that Street Fighter 6's content updates are over, though. Far from it in fact, as work on the game's second year of DLC has already begun. More fighters and stages are likely on the way, even if Capcom hasn’t announced any of them just yet. Year 1 characters included Rashid, A.K.I., Ed and now Akuma. Here’s how Capcom describes its latest fighter:
The demonic Akuma joins the Street Fighter 6 roster and rounds out the list of the award-winning fighting game’s Year 1 characters when he hits the streets starting in spring 2024! Players can throw hands with Akuma across all three game modes, including Fighting Ground, World Tour, and Battle Hub. We look forward to sharing much more on Akuma soon. And stay tuned later this year for captivating announcements on Year 2 content and potentially even some fun events coming to the Battle Hub!
