Rocksteady’s post-launch plans for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s first season of content include a playable Joker.
Rocksteady Studios has shared more details on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s first season of content, which arrives after the game’s launch as a free update. Season 1 will introduce new locations, activities and missions set in Metropolis, as well as the game’s first new playable character: the Joker.
Only, this game is set after the events of Arkham Knight. That means the Joker should be dead. Right?
No, the Joker isn’t dead (kind of)
A new developer video has shared some ambitious post-launch plans for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Rocksteady is planning to support the game with multiple Destiny 2-like seasons of content, adding new co-op multiplayer activities, zones, weapons and more content for players to enjoy throughout the year. That all starts with the Joker when Season 1 begins in March this year.
Now, the Joker is very much dead in this universe - see Arkham City for the exact details of his not-so-tragic passing - but in this follow-up, Braniac is experimenting with popular DC heroes and villains to create variants which exist in alternate timelines. This Joker comes from a timeline where he’s always been part of the Suicide Squad and thus is a little more cooperative than his Arkhamverse counterpart.
The Suicide Squad's Joker is younger and unsure of himself, but most importantly, entirely playable when Season 1 launches. His playstyle is fast and frantic, using a jet-powered umbrella to fly about and a mace to knock enemies down. He arrives in Season 1 with a new Joker-themed environment in Metropolis and two new story episodes featuring new bosses and missions, as well as more gear to collect.
Rocksteady intends to push forward with new playable characters launching every season, expanding the Suicide Squad roster and adding to the postgame story bit by bit. All of this will be free, but players will have to fork up extra for cosmetics in the in-game shop and the battle pass. According to reputable leaker Miller, the first four seasons will bring the Joker, Victoria Fries (Mr. Freeze’s daughter), Lawless (Deadshot’s daughter) and Deathstroke to the game. Future seasons will also add Killer Croc and Katana.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launches on February 2, 2024.
