Sunday is set to be one of the best Harmony supports in Honkai: Star Rail, as he can provide massive DMG and Crit Rate/DMG buffs, 100% action advance, debuff cleansing, and energy regeneration all while remaining skill point (SP) neutral.
Not only that, but he also provides bigger buffs to allies with Summons – meaning he will be the premier support for upcoming Path of Remembrance characters. Even if the ally he’s supporting doesn’t have a Summon, Sunday’s buffs are more than enough to make him a top-tier pick.
If you were lucky enough to have pulled Sunday, read on as we break down how to utilise him effectively with his best build, gear, and teammates.
Sunday’s skill, Benison of Paper and Rites, lets him enable a single ally and their Summon to immediately take action while buffing their DMG by 30% at level 10 for 2 turns. If the ally target for this skill also has a Summon, then the DMG buff is further boosted to a whopping 80%.
In addition, if the ally targeted by Sunday’s skill is marked as ‘the Beatified’ (more on that later), then Sunday will also regenerate 1 SP. But do note that using this skill on a Harmony character will not cause them to immediately take action. Sunday’s ultimate, Ode to Caress and Cicatrix, lets him mark a single target ally as the Beatified and regenerates 20% of their max energy while also buffing their Crit DMG by an amount equal to 30% of Sunday’s Crit DMG plus 12% at level 10.
The Beatified status lasts for 3 turns and its duration will be decreased by 1 at the start of Sunday’s turn. Sunday’s Talent, The Sorrowing Body, lets him grant an additional 20% Crit Rate buff at level 10 to the target of his skill for 3 turns.
Sunday’s major Traces collectively boost his already-strong kit even further. His A2 Trace, Rest Day’s Longing, causes his ultimate to regenerate 40 energy to the Beatified ally if the energy they would have originally regenerated is less than 40. His A4 Trace, Exalted Sweep, lets him regenerate 25 energy at the start of every battle. His A6 Trace, Haven in Palm, lets him cleanse 1 debuff from the ally targeted by his skill.
Finally, Sunday’s Technique, The Glorious Mysteries, makes it so that the first use of his skill or ultimate on an ally target will grant an additional 50% DMG buff for 2 turns. When leveling up Sunday’s abilities, max out his skill, ultimate, and Talent as soon as possible. You don’t need to level up his basic attack, as he ideally won’t be using it at all.
In battle, Sunday would ideally take his turn right after your party’s main damage-dealer. That allows Sunday to use his skill on that ally to cause them to take 2 turns in quick succession with his massive DMG buffs active. A well-built Sunday will also be able to use his ultimate in his first turn with just one use of his skill, which makes him SP neutral if he only casts his skill on the Beatified ally.
Sunday’s best Light Cones
Sunday’s best Light Cone is, of course, his signature, A Grounded Ascent. This Light Cone regenerates 6 energy for Sunday after he uses his skill or ultimate while giving his target 1 stack of the ‘Hymn’ buff for 3 turns. Hymn increases the DMG of the ally under its effect by 15%. Hymn can stack 3 times for a maximum DMG buff of 45%. As a cherry on top, every 2 uses of Sunday’s skill or ultimate will also recover 1 SP for the party.
When combined with the DMG buff from Sunday’s skill, his signature Light Cone can increase the buffed ally’s DMG by a whopping 75% if they have no Summon, and an insane 125% if they do have a Summon. If you have enough Stellar Jade, we wholly recommend pulling for Sunday’s signature Light Cone.
But if you can’t get Sunday’s signature, don’t fret as he has plenty of worthy alternatives. For 5-star Light Cones, go for Bronya’s signature, But the Battle isn’t Over, or Sparkle’s signature, Earthly Escapade. For 4-stars, go for Past and Future, Carve the Moon, Weave the Clouds, and Planetary Rendezvous – but only if your party’s main damage-dealer also wields the Imaginary element like Sunday.
Sunday’s best Relics
Sunday’s go-to Cavern of Corrosion relic set is the 4-piece Sacerdos’ Relived Ordeal. This set’s 2-piece bonus gives Sunday a 6% Speed boost while its 4-piece bonus lets him give a 18% Crit DMG buff for 2 turns to any single ally targeted by his skill and ultimate. That Crit DMG buff stacks twice, so using Sunday’s skill and ultimate on one ally will give them a huge 36% Crit DMG buff.
Sunday’s go-to Planar Ornament relic sets are either the 2-piece Lushaka, the Sunken Seas or the 2-piece Broken Keel set.
Lushaka, the Sunken Seas increases Sunday’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 5% and, if he is not the first character (far left) in the team lineup, then the character that is first in the lineup will receive a 12% ATK buff. Meanwhile, the Broken Keel set increases Sunday’s Effect RES by 10% and increases all allies Crit DMG by 10% if Sunday’s own Effect RES is at 30% or higher. Your choice between these two will be dependent on whether the ally Sunday is buffing needs more ATK or Crit DMG.
For Sunday’s relic main stats, go for Crit DMG on the body, Speed on the boots, HP% or DEF% on the Planar Sphere, and Energy Regeneration Rate on the Link Rope.
Your stat goals for Sunday should be at least 200% Crit DMG, as much Effect RES, DEF, and HP as possible, and enough Speed to let him take his turn after the party’s main damage-dealer. Your party’s main damage-dealer should have at least 134 Speed to be able to take 2 turns every cycle, so in this case, Sunday should have 133 Speed.
Having at least 200% Crit DMG on Sunday will give the ally he uses his skill on around 75% Crit DMG. When combined with the 36% Crit DMG buff from Sacerdos’ Relived Ordeal, Sunday will be giving your main damage-dealer over 110% Crit DMG plus 20% Crit Rate.
Sunday’s best teammates
As Honkai: Star Rail’s new top-tier Harmony support, Sunday can be run in just about any Hypercarry team regardless whether they have a Summon or can make use of his energy regeneration buffs. Even the likes of Acheron and Feixiao will still make good use of Sunday’s massive DMG buffs even if they don’t have a traditional energy bar.
But since Sunday will have better synergy with allies who have Summons, the likes of Jing Yuan, Topaz, or even a DPS Lingsha will love him. Of course, future Path of Remembrance characters like Aglaea or the Remembrance Trailblazer will also want Sunday on their teams.
Of course, Sunday would also love to be paired with his beloved sister Robin in what should be the best Hypercarry team in the entire game. Both Sunday and Robin can grant additional turns to the party’s main damage-dealer on top of their massive DMG buffs, with Robin also dealing tons of damage of her own with her powerful ultimate – which Sunday can help charge up with his own ultimate.
Honkai: Star Rail version 2.7 released December 4, featuring two highly-anticipated 5-star characters in Sunday and Tingyun's ‘Fugue’ form. Sunday will be in version 2.7’s first half banner alongside a timely rerun for Jing Yuan. If you’re still undecided on whether you should pull for Sunday or Jing Yuan – maybe even both of them given their synergy – then check here and we’ll help you decide.
Trailblazers can also expect a major update to Honkai: Star Rail in 2025 with version 3.0. Not only will that update see the release of the new world Amphoreus, it will also mark the addition of a new playable Path in the Path of Remembrance. The game has already revealed its first two Remembrance characters in Aglaea and the Remembrance Trailblazer. Herta’s 5-star version The Herta will also be introduced in this update.
