We are getting more new agents this year!
It may only be the third week of February but 2023 looks to be VALORANT's year with three new agents coming on board sometime later in the year. This is according to the character producer for VALORANT at Riot Games, John Goscicki.
In the dev's latest 'State of the Agents' update on the official VALORANT Twitter page, Goscicki has stated that of the three new agents, one will be an initiator and another will be a sentinel. As for the third new agent, Goscicki was rather coy on that, "we're not gonna quite give that one away yet. You'll have to wait until later in the year to find out."
While there is very little to be known about the third agent, some have speculated that this could down to Riot introducing a new class to VALORANT. Another reason as to why the third agent can't be announced yet due to the devs not being able to identify which class they will belong to.
Goscicki has also said that not every class will have the same number of agents when more are added to the roster as the year progresses. It comes with a need to maintain a good balance of roles and game styles. But with that said, after adding more agents to the game, a perfect one-to-one balance across all the roles isn't necessary.
The next agent coming to VALORANT agent will bring an eclectic way of dealing with situations. Also known as Agent 22 for now, their abilities includes finding new ways to shoot corners as well as planting the spike.
With the VCT LOCK//IN currently going on in São Paulo, we can see that some of the newer agents have been quite popular on the main stage. Controller Harbor was the latest to be introduced into the game last October and has been a steady pick in competitive play since then. He's made nine appearances so far in the LOCK//IN.
