The MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024 champions are ready to make the M6 World Championship their stomping ground. Can they complete the golden road of MLBB esports?
The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) M6 World Championship is already underway, with 23 of the best MLBB teams from all across the world fighting to claim the lion's share of a $1 million prize pool and this year's MLBB world title. In this series, we'll be taking a look at all the teams that qualified for the Swiss Stage and their chances of becoming the 2024 MLBB world champions.
For the fourteenth entry in this series, let's take a look at the hometown heroes, champions of the 2024 MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) and the MLBB Professional League (MPL) Malaysia Season 14, the biggest favourites to win the M6 World Championship: Selangor Red Giants. Can they complete the golden road of MLBB esports in 2024?
Selangor Red Giants roster:
- Muhammad Haqqullah Bin Ahmad Shahrul “Sekys” Zaman
- Muhammad “Yums” Suhairi
- Mark Genzon “Kramm” Rustana
- Vincent “Innocent” Banal
- Mohd Norhadim Bin Mohamad “Stormie” Rizwan
- Zareef Bin Zulkifli “Gojes” Ilman
As the undisputed champions of Malaysia in 2024, Selangor Red Giants' rise to stardom this year was something to behold as they completely dominated the esports scene not only domestically but also internationally.
It all started when the 2024 transfer windows began. Selangor Red Giants quickly released four players: returning loanee Jon Redick “Super Red” Bordeos back to Blacklist International while also releasing Abdul “NovaXcobar” Rashid, Archie “Pancake” Guevarra Jr., and Syed “Trap” Fitri, then known as Syf.
Selangor Red Giants recruited Malaysian veteran Yums, two imports from MPL Philippines in Innocent and Kramm, and former Team SMG ace Stormie to bolster their ranks. With these changes happening early in the 2024 calendar, Selangor Red Giants had three months of preparation before the start of MPL Malaysia Season 13.
The result? It was an overwhelming success, as they took the league by storm with a perfect 18-0 score in the Regular Season. This form continued in the Playoffs as they took down King Empire 3-1 in the upper bracket semifinals, RSG Malaysia 3-0 in the upper bracket finals, and Homebois 4-2 to win their first MPL Malaysia title.
Selangor Red Giants then stomped their way through MSC 2024, losing just one match in the entire tournament in the Group Stage. No one could stop them in the Playoffs, as they capped off their run by outlasting Falcons AP.Bren in a seven-game thriller in the grand finals to take home Malaysia's first MSC title.
While Selangor Red Giants' momentum hasn't been halted, they did face their fair share of challenges after winning the MSC 2024. In MPL Malaysia Season 14, they failed to repeat last season's achievement of a perfect Regular Season as they were handed their first loss by Monster Vicious. They also got surprised by Todak in the Playoffs, unexpectedly dropping into the lower bracket as a result.
However, Selangor Red Giants' march to another championship was undeniable as they regained their form and grabbed their second consecutive MPL Malaysia title with a 4-2 victory over Team Vamos.
With new contenders left, right, and center in the M6 World Championship, Selangor Red Giants will need to refresh their strategy to adapt to all the challengers awaiting them. Can they complete their golden road and be the first-ever team in the history of MLBB esports to win everything that can be won in a single calendar year?
