Worlds 2024: T1 crush G2 to qualify for Knockouts; BLG defeat PSG Talon to continue their Swiss run

With all teams clawing their way to make it to the next stage, Day 7 of the Swiss Stage delivered the most exciting matchups.

The action at the League of Legends World Championship 2024 intensified on Day 7 of the Swiss Stage, as four more teams battled it out to secure their spot in the next round or fight to survive.

T1 stormed through with a commanding 2-0 sweep against G2 Esports, earning their quarterfinal berth.

Meanwhile, Bilibili Gaming (BLG) took down PSG Talon 2-0, staying alive with a final chance to qualify for the Knockout Stage.

Here’s how the games unfolded:

T1 crush G2 2-0 to qualify for the quarterfinals

In the first game, G2 Esports drafted a formidable Jax-Nocturne-Orianna synergy in the top, jungle, and mid lanes, with Steven "Hans Sama" Liv on his signature Draven.

T1, on the other hand, opted for a Gragas-Skarner top-jungle combo, with Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok's signature Ahri in the mid lane. Ryu "Keria" Min-seok's Leona paired with Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong’s Jhin in the bot lane rounded out the draft.

Despite G2's attempts to challenge T1 at every turn, Choi "Zeus" Woo-je on Gragas and Moon "Oner" Hyeon-joon's precise Skarner disrupted G2’s plays consistently.

T1 maintained a clinical approach, and after a 28-minute siege, they claimed G2’s Nexus with a 21-9 kill lead, taking the first game.

In the second game, G2 adjusted their draft by selecting Gnar in the top lane while retaining Nocturne and Orianna. Hans Sama picked Kai’Sa for added damage. T1 switched up their composition, with Oner picking Vi, and Zeus opting for Jax.

G2 found several openings, with Rasmus "Caps" Winther’s Orianna landing crucial Shockwaves that secured an ace and pushed T1 back to their base. These setups enabled G2 to execute their Nocturne, Orianna, and Gnar combo, catching T1 off-guard.

However, when the pressure was on, Zeus’s Jax turned key fights around, and the critical moment came when Oner made a clutch Baron steal, preventing G2 from closing out the game. This Baron steal allowed T1 to regain control and stabilise their defence.

As T1’s inhibitor turrets respawned, the defending World Champions punished G2’s overextension and mounted a comeback.

After a gruelling 41-minute encounter with a 23-17 kill lead, T1 took down G2’s Nexus, winning the series and securing their place in the Knockout Stage.

BLG sweep PSG Talon in a nail-biting 2-0 series

The first game saw Bilibili Gaming (BLG) draft Aurora, Wukong, and Jax for top-jungle-mid, while PSG Talon responded with Yone, Sejuani, and Kennen.

Early on, PSG took control with an impressive lead in both kills and gold. However, BLG fought back, trading kills across the map, and slowly began clawing their way back into the game.

With Chen “Bin” Ze-bin's Jax and Zhang "Elk" Ya-Lun's Misfortune coming up huge in the later stages, BLG were able to turn the tables. After a 35-minute brawl, BLG seized PSG Talon’s Nexus with a 22-16 kill advantage, securing the first game win.

In the second game, BLG brought out a Jayce mid, Sejuani jungle, and Bin once again on his signature Jax, with Elk piloting Kai'Sa.

PSG opted for a Poppy-Skarner-Smolder combo to try and counter BLG’s powerful picks. BLG started strong, dominating the laning phase and setting the game's tempo.

Despite PSG’s best efforts to find picks in team fights and side lanes, Bin’s Jax continued to be an unstoppable force, turning team fights with pinpoint flanks.

Elk’s Kai’Sa delivered consistent damage while managing to narrowly escape dangerous situations multiple times. After 28 minutes of intense gameplay, BLG shattered PSG Talon’s Nexus, completing the 2-0 sweep.

T1 will now fly to Paris for the Knockout Stage, where they will face the world's strongest teams for another shot at lifting the Summoner's Cup.

Meanwhile, G2 Esports and BLG are one win away from securing their spots in the quarterfinals, but one loss away from an early exit.

And after their loss against BLG, PSG Talon’s journey ends here, as they bow out of Worlds 2024 in 12-14th place, taking home $67,500.
