The open-world RPG formerly known as Project Mugen has been retitled.
NetEase Games’ upcoming free-to-play open-world RPG Ananta (formerly known as Project Mugen) has unveiled a flashy new gameplay trailer. The game originally drew attention due to its unorthodox mix of anime visuals with Spider-Man and GTA-like gameplay. In this new trailer, it looks flashier than ever before. In fact, parts of it seem to directly reference Rockstar Games’ first trailer for GTA 6.
NetEase Games’ upcoming open-world Ananta looks like anime GTA
NetEase Games first revealed its upcoming free-to-play game Ananta under the name Project Mugen, but it looks like the publisher – and developer Naked Rain – are ready to show off more footage from the game. The RPG appears to be a gacha game, wherein players can build teams of up to four characters to take into battle. Judging by the gameplay trailer, combat will feature a mix of stealth elements, gunplay, and ability combos.
The open world itself looks highly ambitious. Its urban city appears to be based on modern Japan, and is a sprawling place filled with colourful characters driving through its streets, engaging in minigames, and getting busted by the cops. It’s all very GTA – specifically GTA 6’s reveal trailer, with shots of people going to the beach, livestreaming each other, and doing very dangerous things on the highway.
The gameplay trailer also features the player character swinging from building to building like Spider-Man, but that isn’t the only way they’ll be able to get around the city. They can also drive motorcycles and cars, though by the looks of things, some of these cars might actually fight back. We also get a few glimpses of its playable characters, though there is still no direct confirmation that it’s an actual gacha game.
Here’s how NetEase describes the game:
In ANANTA, players take on the role of an elite Agent within the A.C.D. (Anti-Chaos Directorate) embarking on an exhilarating adventure through a world that breaks all the rules. Nova City has plunged into Chaos, from spooky paranormal phenomena to toilets racing through traffic in the streets, the game promises to offer a unique blend of humor, adventure, and mystery.
Ananta does not have a release date yet.
