Pokemon TCG Pocket is already a hit on mobile devices.

Pokemon TCG Pocket, the mobile version of the popular Pokemon trading card game, is already shaping up to be a massive success. The analytics firm AppMagic recently revealed that The Pokemon Company’s new mobile game has absolutely exploded in popularity at launch, with up to 12 million downloads globally and a total of $12.1 million earned in its first four days of life alone.

There’s still time for those profits to expand as well, as word of mouth has begun to spread about the game in the week following its release. Plus, all this success comes before future content updates have even begun to roll out for the game.

Pokemon TCG Pocket rakes in $12 million in four days

Pokemon TCG Pocket launched on October 30, 2024, but it’s already earned enough money to be considered a breakout hit for The Pokemon Company. According to AppMagic, the game registered 12 million downloads worldwide as of November 5, and earned $12.1 million via microtransactions in its first four days of release. The majority of these purchases are likely linked to the in-game Premium Pass and Pack Hourglasses, which reduce the time for which players must wait to open new booster packs.

45% of these earnings reportedly come from Japan, while 25% come from the game’s second-largest market - the US. Given that it’s early days for the game, and players likely want to build the best in-game decks possible to blaze through PvP matches, it’s understandable that they’re spending so much upfront. The entire game revolves around opening booster packs as often as possible, or having to wait to catch up to everyone else.

Fortunately, free-to-play players will always be able to open two card packs every day for the cost of nothing. As long as they make sure to log in every day, they won’t be left too far behind. Other in-game microtransactions allow players to pick up cosmetics like playmats and card folders, so they’ll have to resist those as well.

Pokemon TCG Pocket is out now on iOS and Android devices.
