Exciting news for everyone, but at this point, we’ll believe it when we see it.
Finally, some exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight—Hollow Knight: Silksong has a release window on Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s coming this year. The game was briefly featured during today’s Nintendo Direct, where the Nintendo Switch 2 and many other games coming to the console were showcased.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-awaited sequel to the hit Metroidvania game Hollow Knight. The original game was released in February 2017 on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, macOS, and Xbox One and has gone on to greatly influence the Metroidvania and platforming genres.
It’s been six years since the announcement of the title, and updates on the game have been sparse. The game was featured in a few pop-ups and the Microsoft Bethesda Games Showcase in 2022, but since then, its absence from the spotlight has become a meme in the gaming community.
However, earlier this year, tweets and posts on social media from one of the co-directors at Team Cherry sparked hope among fans—a photo of a chocolate cake with a recipe released on 2 April 2024—leading to speculation that something about the long-awaited game would be announced during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation.
Hollow Knight: Silksong also uploaded updates on Steam
PC Gamer recently shared that Hollow Knight: Silksong received an update on SteamDB a few days ago.
The update includes a few changes: the game's copyright has been updated from 2019 to 2025, it is now eligible for NVIDIA's cloud gaming service, GeForce Now, and some tweaks have been made to its library assets.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal. But since fans have been waiting for Silksong for over six years, even small updates feel important. It may not be huge, but with the buzz around the game, it’s getting more attention.
With all these developments since the beginning of the year—including an Xbox blog post mentioning it alongside other games that already have release dates, trailers, and news—2025 just might be the year Silksong finally launches on Switch 2 and PC. But at this rate, cross your fingers but don’t hold your breath—we probably need to see that it's available for pre-order to actually believe it's coming out.
