The Joker is the latest fighter to join MultiVersus’ playable roster when it launches this month.
Warner Bros. Games has confirmed the latest addition to MultiVersus’ crossover-laden roster of playable characters: the Joker. Mark Hamill will reprise his role as the iconic Clown Prince of Crime for the game, joining the late Kevin Conroy as Batman. Both actors starred in Batman: The Animated Series together, and Conroy recorded lines for MultiVersus before his passing in 2022.
Here’s the Joker's reveal trailer:
The Joker joins MultiVersus’ playable roster
The platform fighting game MultiVersus is adding another DC Comics character to its roster, joining Batman, Harley Quinn, Black Adam, Superman and Wonder Woman. The Joker will join this unlikely collection of heroes and villains when the game launches later this month, as its first new character since early access.
While we don’t have gameplay for the character just yet, we do get a few hints at what he can do in the debut trailer above. After defeating Arya Stark, Shaggy and Bugs Bunny in the trailer, the Joker eagerly faces off against his longtime arch-enemy Batman. According to the game’s official Twitter/X account, Joker will wield a crowbar, playing cards and a rocket launcher in battle.
The Joker seemed like an inevitable addition to this roster given his popularity, but what’s really surprising is that Mark Hamill is returning to voice the character. Both Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy starred in Batman: The Animated Series together, and went on to play the Joker and Batman in many more movies, video games, TV shows and other media together.
After Conroy’s passing in 2022, Hamill stated that he would retire from the role by saying that, “Without Batman, there is no punchline,” suggesting that he didn’t want to play the Joker without Conroy’s Batman also involved. Happily, MultiVersus already features pre-recorded lines by Conroy as the Batman, so this makes for a somewhat touching reunion between both actors. It will likely be their last appearance together as Batman and the Joker in a video game.
MultiVersus launches on May 28, 2024, as a free-to-play game.
