Nigma Galaxy have also put themselves in a good position to qualify for the Playoffs.
The tension is rising in Dota 2 ESL One Bangkok 2024 as the second day of the Group Stage on Tuesday (December 10) came to a close.
PARIVISION became the first team to qualify for the Playoffs by securing a 7-1 record after day two while reigning The International (TI) champions Team Liquid are in real danger of an early elimination. And after securing 1-1 draws in all their matches so far, Nigma Galaxy are also looking Playoff-bound.
Here's how all the action in day two of the ESL One Bangkok 2024 Group Stage went down:
PARIVISION lock up Playoff spot, Liquid at risk of early exit
After a strong 3-1 start in day one of the Group Stage, PARIVISION looked locked in for day two as they soundly swept Liquid and Gaozu to improve on a 7-1 record in Group B and become the first team to secure an upper bracket berth in the Playoffs. BetBoom Team are also all but guaranteed to advance to the upper bracket, having finished the day with a 6-2 record off a surprising 1-1 draw with Nigma Galaxy and a 2-0 sweep over M80.
Over in Group A, Team Falcons and AVULUS topped the standings with 6-2 and 5-3 records, respectively, to also become Playoff locks. Falcons have a comfortable hold on an upper bracket berth, but AVULUS are not yet clear of Group A mid fielders Shopify Rebellion and Team Spirit.
After a surprising 3-1 outing in day one, Shopify Rebellion regressed to the mean as they only managed a 1-3 record in day two after getting swept by Falcons and a 1-1 draw with Spirit. Spirit drew their two matches in day one, and that trend continued in day two as they also tied 1-1 with AVULUS. With 4-4 records apiece, Shopify Rebellion and Spirit can still snatch an upper bracket berth away from AVULUS if things go their way in day three.
Another team that has been drawing all their matches so far was Nigma Galaxy, who tied with BetBoom and Liquid in day two. With three other teams in Group B having a worse record than them, another draw for Nigma Galaxy will make them a lock for the Playoffs.
But while most squads have enjoyed solid performances so far, one team that has struggled mightily are Liquid. After a disappointing 1-3 start in day one, the reigning TI champions produced the same result in day two after falling to PARIVISION in a 2-0 sweep and getting forced to a 1-1 draw by Nigma Galaxy. Despite being the current holders of the Aegis of Champions, it's unlikely that Liquid will be gracing the main stage of ESL One Bangkok 2024.
Two other teams also ended day two of the Group Stage well outside the Playoff picture with 2-6 records: Natus Vincere (NAVI) in Group A and M80 in Group B. NAVI notably finished day one without a single win, but they bounced back by sweeping BOOM Esports before getting humbled by AVULUS. BOOM are faring better with a 3-5 record in Group B, but a Playoff appearance for them is looking like a long shot at this point.
The final day of the ESL One Bangkok 2024 Group Stage will see the last three matches for both groups being played. In Group A it will be Spirit versus BOOM, AVULUS versus Shopify Rebellion, and Falcons versus NAVI, while Group B will feature PARIVISION versus Nigma Galaxy, Gaozu versus BetBoom, and Liquid versus M80.
