KheZu joined OG in October 2024 and oversaw a period of abysmal performances for the team.
Iconic Dota 2 organisation OG have officially announced the departure of coach
Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann on Monday (5 May). The German player-turned-coach has decided to step away after seven months as OG's coach that saw the team struggle mightily to remain competitive in the bloodbath that is the Western European scene.
KheZu's exit comes at a time when OG’s Western European roster is still under development and yet to be finalised, with the organisation also expanding to new horizons with the signing of a secondary Peruvian squad in OG.LATAM.
KheZu is a stalwart figure in the Dota 2 scene. Over the years, he has competed as a player, coached several teams, and appeared regularly as an analyst at top-tier tournaments. His last appearance as a pro player was in April 2022 with Quincy Crew during the now-defunct North American Dota Pro Circuit.
In July 2022, KheZu began taking on more roles as an analyst and commentator. Since then, he has contributed to major events like The International from 2022 to 2024, Riyadh Masters 2024, and ESL One Berlin Major 2024.
KheZu’s time with OG comes to an end
While KheZu briefly coached Quincy Crew in the past, his first major coaching role came when he joined OG in October 2024. At that time, OG had introduced an entirely fresh roster made up of a mix of big names and rising talent: Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon,
Leon “Nine” Kirilin,
Adrian “Wisper” Cespedes Dobles,
Matthew “Ari” Walker, and
Jian Wei “xNova-” Yap.
Despite the team’s promising lineup, OG started poorly in 2025. At BLAST Slam I, the team had a hopeful start but ultimately finished at the bottom. In the following months, OG failed to earn a spot for all tournaments they attempted to qualify for, except PGL Wallachia Season 3, where they suffered another devastating bottom placement.
OG’s early struggles of the season led to an inevitable disbandment, a rough journey that was also documented in their recently released film, "Lessons in Defeat." Although KheZu stayed with the team a bit longer, he has now also moved on.
We can likely expect OG to announce a replacement coach soon, as well as more updates regarding its Western European Dota 2 roster. As for KheZu, he hasn’t revealed what’s next, but with his experience it’s likely we’ll see him again behind the desk as an analyst or even return to coaching with another team.
