The Pokemon Company is teaming up with the creators of Wallace and Gromit.
The Pokemon Company has announced a unique collaboration with stop-motion animation studio Aardman Animations. Aardman is known to fans of animation as the creator behind beloved movies and TV series like Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, and more.
Both companies are teaming up for a “special project” launching in 2027.
What are Aardman and the Pokemon Company working on together?
The Pokemon Company is officially releasing a new “special project” with the help of animation studio Aarrdman. According to a press release, the collaboration “will see Aardman bringing their unique style of storytelling to the Pokémon universe in brand-new adventures.”
The word “adventures” implies that this project might consist of multiple episodes, and thus might be a TV project rather than a theatrical one. VP of The Pokemon Company International’s marketing and media Taito Okiura commented on the announcement by saying:
This is a dream partnership for Pokémon. Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity. What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat!
Aardman’s managing director Sean Clarke added that “It’s a huge honor to be working with The Pokémon Company International — we feel sincerely privileged to be trusted with bringing their characters and world to life in a brand-new way. Bringing together Pokémon, the world’s biggest entertainment brand, together with our love of craft, character and comedic storytelling feels incredibly exciting.
“Aardman and TPCi share an emphasis on heritage and attention to detail as well as putting our fans and audiences at the heart of what we do, which we know will steer us right as we together create charming, original and new stories for audiences around the world.”
Aardman is well-known for creating beloved stop-motion animated properties like Flushed Away, Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit. Thus, it’s highly likely that fans are getting a stop-motion Pokemon project animated by the company sometime in 2027 – a long three years from now, which makes sense considering that stop-motion animation takes time.
This won’t be the first time The Pokemon Company has dabbled in stop-motion animation, however. The company recently collaborated with Netflix for its Pokemon Concierge animated series, which already has a second season in the works.
