More details on Nintendo Switch 2 launch plans revealed
Games giant Nintendo has locked in a full reveal for its next big console, the Nintendo Switch 2, in April. Until then, a few rumours from Insider Gaming will have to whet the appetites of fans hungry for the new device. According to the publication, this year’s iteration of the Game Developers Conference saw rumours flying around regarding a firm launch window for the Nintendo Switch 2: June 2025.
The publication then cites various sources to confirm that Nintendo is lining up a “three-phase strategy” for its Nintendo Switch 2 games throughout 2025. First off, the console itself will launch with “primarily first-party games” in June. One of these games will likely be the all-new Mario Kart game unveiled earlier this year.
The second launch phase will kick off sometime in October and November. At this point, third-party studios will begin to deploy games for the console, with developer kits for the Switch expected to be delivered sometime in June. The third and final phase will kick off at some point during the holiday period, with a final round of game launches to round out the year.
The publication also reported that “select media and creators” are attending a hands-on event for the upcoming console sometime next week. That means we’ll likely get a reveal for the console alongside first impressions of its upcoming games around the same time. Another Nintendo Direct – seemingly unrelated to April’s Nintendo Switch 2 reveal – is also rumoured to stream later this week.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is scheduled for 2 April, 2025.
