Monster Hunter Wilds' first title update is set to add tons of new content, including new hunts and a new location where players can gather and socialise.
Monster Hunter Wilds' highly-anticipated Title Update 1 is set to be released on 4 April with tons of new content, including new monsters to hunt, a new Grand Hub area, Arena and Challenge Quests, and more. Capcom unveiled what's to come in the game's first content update in a showcase livestream on Tuesday (26 March), notably wowing longtime fans of the series by revealing that Title Update 2 will also see the return of fan-favourite monster Lagiacrus in the Summer.
Here's all the new content coming in Monster Hunter Wilds' Title Update 1:
New hunts: Mizutsune, Zoh Shia, and Arch-tempered Rey Dau
The biggest highlight of Monster Hunter Wilds' Title Update 1 is undoubtedly a new set of monsters for players to hunt and craft new gear from. Mizutsune is technically the only new monster coming in the update, but players looking for more challenging hunts can now take on Zoh Shia outside of the game's main story and test their mettle against the Arch-tempered Rey Dau.
Mizutsune
Mizutsune is a Leviathan-type monster that is set to inhabit the Scarlet Forest locale. This monster is able to glide gracefully across the water, unleash jets of water that can pierce through even the toughest of armor, and release a swarm of bubbles that impede the movements of unwary hunters careless enough to stray too near.
Players can unlock the ability to hunt Mizutsune if they have reached Hunter Rank (HR) 21, at which point a new quest to hunt the monster can be obtained by talking to the fisher NPC Kanya in the Scarlet Forest Base Camp. Once the quest has been completed, Mizutsune will start appearing in the Scarlet Forest and can be hunted through Field Surveys and Investigations.
Zoh Shia
Zoh Shia is the final boss of the game's Low Rank storyline, being the ultimate Guardian monster created by the fallen civilisation of Wyveria that ultimately led to its doom. The monster was only available to hunt once and did not drop any materials to craft its gear prior to Title Update 1. But with the arrival of the update, players will be able to challenge a High Rank version of the monster and craft new weapons and armor from its materials.
Zoh Shia will become available to hunt once players reach HR 50, at which point a new quest will be unlocked to hunt it. Once that quest has been completed, Zoh Shia will have a chance of appearing in the Ruins of Wyveria during the Wyvern's Wakening environment state and be available in quests and Investigations, similar to Jin Dahaad.
Arch-tempered Rey Dau
Arch-tempered Rey Dau is an even stronger version of the Apex monster of the Windward Plains, featuring new moves and stronger attacks. Arch-tempered monsters were first introduced in Monster Hunter World and were exclusive to Elder Dragon-type monsters, with Rey Dau now being the first non-Elder Dragon monster to have an Arch-tempered version. With this precedent set, we can expect the game's other Apex monsters – namely Uth Duna, Nu Udra, and Jin Dahaad – to also receive Arch-tempered versions in future title updates.
Arch-tempered Rey Dau will be available to hunt through an exclusive Event Quest from 29 April to 20 May. Players will need to have reached HR 50 in order to hunt the Arch-tempered Rey Dau. Successfully taking this monster down will also yield materials used to craft the new Rey Dau Gamma armor set, which is expected to feature better skills and Decoration slots than the regular monster's armor set.
Grand Hub
The Grand Hub is Monster Hunter Wilds' version of the Gathering Hub area from previous titles and will serve as a location for hunters to gather and socialise before heading out to hunt. Aside from having all the facilities available in Base Camps, the Grand Hub will also feature a Felyne Canteen where our favourite meowster chefs can cook up pre-hunt meals and even minigames like Barrel Bowling.
As a place of worship for the people of Suja for multiple generations, the Grand Hub will also occasionally host the Diva – a Wyverian singer – at night to fill the area with beautiful music in offering. Give the Diva a listen when you get the chance!
The Grand Hub is also set to host the Festival of Accord: Blossomdance Seasonal Event from 22 April to 6 May. During seasonal events, the Grand Hub's decorations and meals will change to fit the season's festivities, and players will also be able to obtain unique equipment, gestures, and camp decorations, and other rewards.
Arena and Challenge Quests
Monster Hunter Wilds' Title Update 1 will also add two new quest types, Arena Quests and Challenge Quests, for battle-tested hunters to prove their mettle.
Arena Quests are time-based competition quests that allow up to two hunters to complete quests as fast as possible using specified equipment. This quest encourages players to race for the fastest clear time against other hunters across the world, with global rankings, limited bounties for Arena Quest, and more available for viewing at the Expedition Record Board by the entrance of the Grand Hub.
Meanwhile, Challenge Quests are limited-time Event Quests where players can earn Pendants based on different parameters, including their completion time and ranking. Just like the Arena Quests, Challenge Quests can be challenged by two hunters using specified equipment. However, there will also be Free Challenge Quests available for up to four hunters with no restrictions on equipment.
Outfit changes for Alma, new cosmetics
We all know that the real endgame in Monster Hunter is fashion hunting, so Monster Hunter Wilds' Title Update 1 will let players get even more dripped out. What's more, Alma will be joining in on the fashion fun too!
Once the update drops, Alma's outfit can be changed in the Appearance Menu at Base Camp or Pop-Up Camps, with a free outfit also being provided for all players. Another outfit for Alma based on the Handler from Monster Hunter World will also be available for purchase. Alma's glasses can also be customised after completing a certain Side Mission.
In addition, a free Gesture Set will also be available to all players, featuring series-classic gestures to let players express themselves better while out on hunts. If you're a veteran hunter who misses having to flex whenever you drink potions, you won't want to miss out!
Cosmetic DLC Pack 1 will also be available, featuring more gestures and armor options for the Seikret. This will be available to players who purchased Monster Hunter Wilds' Premium Deluxe Edition or the Cosmetic DLC Pass, though it can also be purchased separately.
What's more, Capcom has also teased that Monster Hunter Wilds will be getting a collaboration event with another as-yet unrevealed Capcom title in an update coming at the end of May.
Monster Hunter Wilds released on 28 February and is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
