Resident Evil 4 remake becomes franchise’s fastest title to reach 10 million units

Resident Evil 4 remake hits a major sales milestone, as Capcom teases what's next for the iconic survival horror series.

Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) has announced that the Resident Evil 4 remake has surpassed 10 million units sold worldwide. The announcement was made via a press release published on Capcom’s official website on Friday (25 April). Reaching this milestone within two years of its 2023 release, Resident Evil 4 remake is now the franchise’s fastest-selling title to date.

According to Capcom’s statement, the Resident Evil 4 remake “has garnered strong support from both new and returning fans.” The game has received widespread praise from media outlets and players alike, earning the PlayStation Game of the Year award at the 2023 Golden Joystick Awards. It also secured multiple nominations at the 2023 Game Awards, including Game of the Year, Best Action/Adventure Game, and Best Audio Design. Additionally, it was nominated for Best Video Game at the 2024 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards and Game of the Year at the 2022 VR Awards.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is the quickest in the franchise to pass 10 million units. However, it’s still behind other relatively new games in the franchise in terms of overall sales. Resident Evil 7 Biohazard (2017) and the Resident Evil 2 remake (2019) have both sold over 15 million units, while Resident Evil Village (2021) has exceeded 11 million units sold. Resident Evil 3 (2020) has also crossed the 10 million mark.

Resident Evil 4 Remake discounted for Golden Week

At the time of the announcement, Capcom also made the remake of Resident Evil 4 available at a significantly lower price during its "Capcom Golden Week" Steam sale, offering the game for around 50% of its original price, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition at 40% off.

The Resident Evil series continues to be one of Capcom’s strongest franchises, with cumulative sales of the series surpassing 167 million units since its debut in 1996. Capcom has recently confirmed that Resident Evil 9 is currently in development, directed by Resident Evil 7’s Koshi Nakanishi. The upcoming title was also subtly teased in Capcom’s latest Resident Evil 4 video, which was released to thank its players.
