All the biggest changes in Dota 2's Spring Forward update and patch 7.39

Alongside the usual gameplay changes, Dota 2's Spring Forward update also introduces quality-of-life improvements.

Dota 2 developer Valve Software launched the massive “Spring Forward” update for game on Friday (23 May), delivering the long-awaited 7.39 patch as well as sweeping changes and upgrades across the board. This update introduces gameplay adjustments, including new Neutral Items, several map reworks, UI improvements, and fresh cosmetics in the Spring 2025 Treasure, which adds 16 new hero sets.

The update also brings updates to other game modes, such as Turbo and Ability Draft.

Biggest gameplay changes in Dota 2 patch 7.39

Gameplay-wise, patch 7.39 rolled out major changes to items and heroes. The seasonal Neutral Item rotation has brought in eight brand-new items, along with the return of four older ones. At the same time, several items have been removed.

We’ll no longer see the Orb of Destruction, Pig Pole, Trusty Shovel, Gossamer Cape, Iron Talon, Nemesis Curse, Ninja Gear, Ceremonial Robe, Ogre Seal Totem, Mind Breaker, Magic Lamp, and Pirate Hat. Multiple Enchantments also received adjustments.

The update further experiments with the Facet system, replacing a bunch of hero Facets as well as applying complete reworks to some. New or additional Facets have been added for heroes like Abaddon, Bloodseeker, Clockwerk, Earthshaker, Lich, Monkey King, Muerta, Silencer, Sand King, and Witch Doctor. Meanwhile, Batrider’s Facets have been completely reworked, as have those of Grimstroke and Venomancer.

There were also plenty of buffs, debuffs, and ability adjustments to heroes that will inevitably affect the metagame. With the patch dropping just after DreamLeague Season 26's Group Stage 1, expect the meta to shift as the action continues in Group Stage 2!

Map and terrain changes

One of the most notable elements of patch 7.39 is the series of map changes applied to six key areas. These include updates to the Radiant safe lane pull camp, reworked pathways around the Radiant triangle, slight adjustments to the Roshan pit, and modifications to both the top and bottom paths leading to the Lotus Pools.

Quality-of-life improvements

Quality-of-life improvements are another major highlight in the Spring Forward update. The in-game Settings menu has been completely reorganised, now featuring a cleaner layout and a search function for quick navigation.

Settings now go into deeper detail. For example, a new toggle named "Channeling Structures Require Hold/Stop" lets players better control their channeling with structures like Watchers and Outposts.

Players will also notice improved game performance, with higher frame rates and smoother transitions in and out of matches. Post-game graphs and the scoreboard have also received updates for better stat tracking.

Other smaller but noticeable improvements include the ability to queue for matchmaking while spectating, a visible Aegis timer when pinged, and a new global sound cue when Tormentors die.

16 new hero sets for spring season

The cherry on top for the Spring Forward update is the addition of new shiny hats! The Spring 2025 Heroes’ Hoard Treasure introduces 16 new hero sets for the following: Spirit Breaker, Luna, Necrophos, Huskar, Axe, Pudge, Earthshaker, Sand King, Lion, and even Personas for Invoker and Anti-Mage.
