An Elden Ring live-action movie has been announced.
An official live-action movie adaptation has been announced for FromSoftware Inc.’s hit open-world game Elden Ring. The movie will be produced by A24, with Alex Garland (Civil War, Ex Machina) lined up to write and direct. No plot details or cast members have been disclosed for the project yet.
Elden Ring live-action movie adaptation announced
Film production company A24 is officially making a live-action adaptation of Elden Ring, with publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment producing. The film has also lined up a writer and director: Alex Garland, who has a long history of collaborating with A24 for his previous directorial projects, including Ex Machina, Men, Civil War, and Warfare.
This may be Garland’s first foray into the world of video games, but it certainly isn’t A24’s. The production company is already in the midst of a high-profile Death Stranding movie adaptation, with Kojima Productions on board. It’s likely that A24 is doubling down on game adaptations at this point, starting with Elden Ring and Death Stranding.
Elden Ring originally launched in 2022, as an open-world take on FromSoftware’s own beloved Souls-like gameplay. George R.R. Martin was involved in developing the game’s story, while Hidetaka Miyazaki directed the project.
FromSoftware has since made it clear that it's looking to develop Elden Ring as a franchise IP, although it isn’t planning to make a sequel just yet. The game developer has already announced a spin-off named Elden Ring Nightreign, which is due to launch next week on 30 May, 2025. That, along with this impending movie adaptation, will bulk up the game’s IP as promised.
The Elden Ring movie does not have a release date yet.
