Lagiacrus' return also sees the long-awaited comeback of underwater combat, though it won't be as extensive as in Monster Hunter Tri.
Monster Hunter Wilds' next major content drop, Title Update 2, is set to release next Monday (30 June) with fan-favourite monsters Lagiacrus and Seregios as well as the Arch-tempered Uth Duna, Layered Weapons, and the long-awaited return of underwater combat. Monster Hunter Wilds developer Capcom revealed the details for the game's second major update in the Capcom Spotlight June 2025 show on Friday (27 June).
Monster Hunter Wilds adds Lagiacrus and Seregios plus Arch-tempered Uth Duna
Lagiacrus
After first teasing Lagiacrus' return in the showcase for Title Update 1 in March, Monster Hunter Wilds has finally unveiled the Lord of the Seas in all its glory. Lagiacrus is one of the most popular monsters in the series, being the flagship monster for Monster Hunter Tri, which first released in Japan all the way back in 2009 and the rest of the world the following year. With Monster Hunter Tri being the first title in the series to gain major traction globally, its flagship monster in Lagiacrus has also grown into one of the most iconic monsters of the series.
Wilds' Title Update 2 trailer was notably a bit of a throwback to the original Monster Hunter Tri reveal trailer, where Lagiacrus made its first iconic appearance in a clash with series flagship monster Rathalos over food. Wilds will see this iconic rivalry continue, with the two beasts even getting their own Turf War. With all due respect to the OG, Lagiacrus should win this one.
Lagiacrus is a Leviathan-type monster resembling a crocodile with a long neck, with its body adorned by blue scales. By far the most recognisable aspects of the monsters' design are its cobra-like hood, brown horns, and three pairs of dermal spikes on its back. Those dermal spikes, called Shell Shockers, also allow Lagiacrus to release electricity in order to strengthen its already powerful physical attacks.

While Lagiacrus has adapted to living on land, it is most adept in the water, where it can move with surprising speed and unleash more powerful electric attacks. Monster Hunter Tri was also the first and only title in the series to feature underwater combat, with Lagiacrus serving as the main monster showcasing that system.
Many longtime fans of the Monster Hunter series have been clamoring for Capcom to bring back underwater combat, and the developer are finally doing that–to an extent–in Monster Hunter Wilds' Title Update 2. While players won't be able to swing their weapons around like they did in Tri, Wilds will still allow them to swim freely underwater and perform certain actions. This will likely serve as a setpiece for the Lagiacrus hunt, with hunters chasing the beast underwater to force it back to the land where it is more vulnerable.
Capcom did not state if Wilds' other semi-aquatic monsters, namely Uth Duna and Mizutsune, will also make use of the returning underwater combat system.
In order to hunt Lagiacrus, players must be at least Hunter Rank (HR) 31 and have had completed both the main mission "A World Turned Upside Down" and the side mission "Forest Doshaguma." Tempered Lagiacrus will also appear if players are HR 41+ after completing the Lagiacrus extra mission, with a more powerful 8-star Tempered version of the monster also available.
Seregios

While Lagiacrus' return is certainly the biggest highlight of Title Update 2, Capcom also surprised fans by revealing another flagship monster will be making a return: Seregios, the flagship monster of 2014's Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Seregios is a nimble and highly-aggressive Flying Wyvern known for its lustrous gold scales.
Seregios can move each of its scales individually, using it to perform a rattling display like a rattlesnake when agitated and firing them at foes. However, what makes Seregios really dangerous is its agility while in flight and its powerful feet. The monster often uses its feet, which are zygodactyl (two toes facing forward, two toes facing backward) in nature, to kick attackers while diving from the air. Its sharp talons also allows it to grasp and slash at prey and foes alike.
Just like Lagiacrus, Seregios can only be hunter after players reach HR 31 and have completed the main mission "A World Turned Upside Down." Tempered Seregios can also be hunted if players are HR 41+ and will also have an 8-star Tempered version.
Arch-tempered Uth Duna
Arch-tempered Uth Duna will be Wilds' second monster to feature an Arch-tempered version after Rey Dau. Arch-tempered monsters are a step up from the Tempered version of monsters, giving them new moves and stronger attacks.
Arch-tempered Uth Duna will be available to hunt through an exclusive Event Quest from 30 July to 20 August. Players will need to have reached HR 50 in order to hunt the Arch-tempered it and successfully taking it down will yield materials used to craft the new Uth Duna Gamma armor set, which features better skills and Decoration slots than the monster's regular armor set.
Title Update 2 adds Layered Weapons, Handler switching, and more
Aside from two new monsters and the game's second Arch-tempered hunt, Title Update 2 also includes new features like Layered Weapons, Handler Switching, weapon balance changes, as well as a new seasonal festival and event quests, among many other additions.
Layered Weapons, just like Layered Armor, will allow players to change the appearance of their equipped weapons to look like another without changing the former's stats or skills. In order to unlock a weapon for use as a Layered Weapon, players must have forged the final weapon upgrade for a particular weapon line. Artian weapons can be used as Layered Weapons once it has fully been reinforced. Layered Weapons can also be used by your trusty Palico.
Players will also be able to switch their Handler from Alma to Erik, but really why would you even want to do that?
Anyway, Title Update 2 will also see a new seasonal festival in the Festival of Accord: Flamefete. From 23 July to 6 August, the Grand Hub will be adorned with summertime decorations to celebrate the season. NPCs like Gemma will even change their outfits to something befitting the summer while a group of rowdy Wudwuds have even found their way to the Grand Hub to take part in the festivities.
As with every seasonal festival, the Festival of Accord: Flamefete will allow players to get themed seasonal gear. Past Event Quests will also be available during the duration of the festival alongside new ones.
Photo Mode also received some updates, with players now having the ability to remove their Handler, Seikret, and other elements while taking photos as a toggleable option. Filters have also been added to Photo Mode.
Finally, Title Update 2 also includes weapon balance changes, with the Hammer and Dual Blades in particular getting buffs. You can check out all of the changes coming in the update here.
