One of Hideo Kojima’s many upcoming projects is a movie adaptation of Death Stranding.
Death Stranding’s game director Hideo Kojima has confirmed that he won’t be directing the upcoming movie adaptation of his game. Instead, he will be ‘deeply involved’ in a truly mind-boggling amount of creative tasks during the film’s production, ranging from the usual design and producing work to more vague responsibilities like ‘look’ and ‘supervising’.

The game director wasn’t replying to anyone on Twitter, just clearing up any possible misunderstandings way ahead of time. His studio Kojima Productions announced last year that a Death Standing movie adaptation was officially in the works with ‘new elements and characters’ from the game, and would be produced in collaboration with Kojima himself and Hammerstone Studios.
Given Kojima’s endless love for the big screen, one might have assumed that this meant he would direct the movie himself - but that isn’t the case. The movie was reportedly on the fast track in 2022 with Hammerstone intending to finance it fully, though it hasn’t assembled a cast or announced a start-of-production date in the months since its announcement. These things take time, and Kojima’s got his hands full on top of that.
Kojima is currently working on a sequel to Death Stranding 2, which sees the cast of the first game return with a few new faces under mysterious circumstances. He also reportedly has a horror game in development for Microsoft starring Margaret Qualley, who starred as Mama in Death Stranding. Konami recently announced a remake for another game he directed recently: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, but Kojima won’t be involved whatsoever.
