The open-world Avatar game launches later this year on December 7, 2023.
Ubisoft has unveiled a first look at its upcoming open-world game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which comes from Massive Entertainment, the creators of The Division and Star Wars Outlaws. The game also has an official release date: December 7, 2023.
Watch the trailer below:
The story begins with John Mercer of the RDA looking to raise human-Na'vi hybrids, before his employer's loss at the end of the first movie forces him to retreat. After enjoying many years of peace on Pandora, one of the Na'vi he left behind decides to protect their new home when the RDA makes a violent comeback. The protagonist will have to earn the trust of various Na'vi clans from previously unseen corners of Pandora to help them beat back the RDA invasion first, since they're seen as an outsider.
Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person game that goes deeper into Pandora's environments than the movies themselves, seeing as the player can spend more time inspecting its animals to protect them from RDA hunters, foliage to cook meals, and regions to explore fully on land, sea and water. It's not just the wilderness of Pandora that you'll have to deal with - but the RDA outposts and mining facilities scattered across the map.
Gameplay-wise, there is a ton of combat in this thing. It almost looks like Far Cry with a more alien touch, besides the fact that you're still fighting a ton of humans in strange lands. The Na'vi can fight with bows and traditional Pandoran weapons, but they can also get their hands on RDA cannons and massive machine guns to level the playing field. You are playing as a child of two worlds, after all.
James Cameron himself showed up to sing the game's praises in a short behind-the-scenes segment, announcing that the movies' visual effects team at Lightstorm shared resources with Massive Entertainment to create the game and flesh out new corners of Pandora. Frontiers of Pandora launches on December 7, 2023.
