TI 2024 Seeding Decider: nouns demolish the reigning champions

Team Spirit and nouns would be the penultimate series of The International 2024 Seeding Deciders, as the two teams fought for an upper bracket playoff spot.

After Day 1 of the Seeding Deciders at The International 2024 saw Team Liquid, Xtreme Gaming, Cloud9, and Aurora take themselves into the upper bracket of The International 2024 playoffs, today would see another four teams claim their spots. Four would be left in the lower bracket.

Earlier in the dayTeam Falcons and Tundra Esports had already claimed their spots. Team Spirit and nouns would fight for the next slot in the second-to-last series of the Seeding Deciders.

Team Spirit and nouns have met twice in 2024, at BetBoom Dacha Dubai and then again at the more recent PGL Wallachia Season 1. On both occasions, it was Spirit defeated their opponents, going unbeaten. But today was different – today was TI and the upper bracket on the line. It took around 20 minutes for one team to show their hand, and it was nouns, with a fantastic team fight going their way. From then on, the teams both found some fantastic team fight opportunities, but nouns were coming out ahead at nearly every turn. It took 45 minutes for the game to end, as the North American team secured a surprising game 1.

Riding on the high from their victory, nouns went into the next game looking to break the spirit of the reigning champions of TI. Right off the bat, they were in Spirit’s face, taking control of the game and not allowing them much space to farm across the map. Even with Illya “yatoro” Mulyarchuk (Raddan) on the hard-hitting Lina and a Doom for Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov, Yuma “Yuma” Langlet's Luna, alongside the fantastic draft from nouns, was able to knock down Spirit.

Even after going unbeaten in the Group Stage, Team Spirit was unable to make it count when it came down to the Seeding Decider, as the team they picked to go up against trounced them in a magnificent 2-0 victory. With a huge upset, nouns move into the upper bracket of TI2024, while Spirit drop into the lower bracket – where they will need to make a miraculous run if they want to become three-time champions.

There is one more Seeding Decider series and then the playoff brackets will be set.
