Valve announces TI 2023 regional qualifiers dates and slot allocation

With the last major of the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit just around the corner, Valve announced the full schedule for regional qualifiers for The International 2023 with no Last Chance Qualifiers for this year.

Bali Major, which is set to commence next week, on the 29th of June, represents the last chance for the teams to snatch a direct invite to this year’s edition of The International via Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) points.

TI 2023 will feature 20 teams from which 12 will come via DPC points. The top 12 teams in the DPC rankings will be known at the end of the Bali Major. After that, come regional qualifiers with eight slots up for grabs distributed as follows:

  • North America: 1 slot
  • China: 1 Slot
  • Southeast Asia: 1 slot
  • Eastern Europe: 1 slot
  • Western Europe: 2 slots
  • South America: 2 slots

The regional qualifiers are scheduled to take place in the second half of the month of August, from the 17th to the 31st as follows:

  • North America and China: August 17th-21st
  • South America and Eastern Europe: August 22nd-26th
  • Southeast Asia and Western Europe: August 27th-31st

So far, only five teams have secured themselves a ticket to The International 2023 with three of those coming from the Western Europe region.

With this year’s edition, The International is returning to the US after four editions held around the world. TI7 was the last edition hosted by the Key Arena in Seattle, where Team Liquid lifted the Aegis of Champions. From there on, each year TI went to different parts of the globe. Key Arena, which now is Climate Pledge Arena from Seattle will be the home for The International 2023. The event will run October 14 - 29 with the best 20 teams fighting for the trophy.

TI 2023 will be the first edition since 2013 that will not feature a Battle Pass. While details on how Valve plans to activate the community and raise the prize pool via fans’ contributions, the game developer announced a TI-themed update that “will contribute directly to the prize pool, with a focus on the event, the players, and the games, but new cosmetic items won't play a notable part.” At the same time, Valve stressed upon the fact that they “intentionally not calling this update a Battle Pass.” This update will come sometime in September, after the regional qualifiers.
