FNATIC dominate Team Vitality to win VCT EMEA Stage 2 championship

Having already won the EMEA Stage 1 championship, FNATIC's victory in Stage 2 makes them the undisputed top dogs of the region.

Fnatic have claimed the Stage 2 championship of the 2024 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) EMEA after they trounced Team Vitality, 3-1, in the league's Stage 2 Playoff best-of-five grand finals on Sunday (July 21).

Having won the EMEA Stage 1 championship back in May, FNATIC have now cemented their place as the league's best team and their biggest hope for another world title heading into this year's VALORANT Champions.

FNATIC entered the Stage 2 Playoffs as the third place team in the league's overall standings with a 7-3 record, which forced them to start the Playoffs in the Knockout Stage. Meanwhile, Team Vitality were right behind them in fourth place with a 6-4 overall standing.

Both teams then survived the Knockout Stage after each going through a three-game series, with FNATIC defeating Karmine Corp while Vitality knocked out Natus Vincere. They also defeated the top-seeded teams in the upper bracket semifinals, with FNATIC sweeping FUT Esports, 2-0, while Vitality defeated Team Heretics, 2-1.

That set up FNATIC and Vitality's first meeting of the Stage 2 Playoffs in the upper bracket finals, where FNATIC emerged victorious in a 2-0 sweep to become the first team in the grand finals. Vitality then trounced Heretics, 3-1, in the best-of-five lower bracket finals to get another shot at FNATIC for the EMEA Stage 2 championship.

FNATIC were on fire to start the finals, dominating the first half of game one in Haven as the defender side to the tune of a 9-3 lead. Vitality then showed signs of life after the side switch, racking up four-straight rounds before Fnatic went on a 5-1 run to close out the map with the 13-8 win after round 21.

Vitality struck back in game two at Ascent to tie up the series, finishing the first half up 8-4 as the attacker side. They continued that momentum in the second half, winning four of the first five rounds after the side swtich to get within map point at 12-5. However, FNATIC looked like they could make a comeback as they won the next four rounds. Fortunately for Vitality, they won round 22 to close out Ascent with the 13-9 win.

FNATIC then reasserted their dominance in the pivotal third game at Lotus, ending the first half up 8-4 as the defender side. Similar to the second half of Ascent, FNATIC won four of the first five rounds of the second half before Vitality looked to turn things around with four-straight round wins. And mirroring the outcome of game two, FNATIC bagged round 22 to claim the 13-9 victory in Ascent and take a commanding 2-1 series lead.

FNATIC seemingly smelled blood in the water in game four at Bind, pulling off a masterful 10-0 run to start the first half as the defender side before Vitality could answer with two rounds of their own before halftime. FNATIC continued rolling after the side switch, winning rounds 13 and 14 before Vitality put up a last hurrah by winning round 15. FNATIC then routed their opponents in round 16 to claim the EMEA Stage 2 championship with a dominant 13-3 victory in Bind.

Having dominated the EMEA league this season, FNATIC will be carrying the region's hopes for a second world championship at VALORANT Champions 2024 in South Korea this August. Joining them in representing EMEA in this year's VALORANT world championship tournament will be Team Vitality, Team Heretics, and FUT Esports.
