March 23 Patch Notes: Polishing, New Map, New Skins, New Gamemode, New Meta

During the night Blizzard has released yet another patch for the Overwatch Beta. Aside from general polishing we also got a new map, as well as a tiny balance change – which could have a huge impact on the meta.

This patch hit the servers when most of Europe was asleep, so you might have missed it's release up until this point. But if you were to open up Overwatch right now you would be surprised with a ton of awesome additions and changes. We even got yet another new map!

The new map is called "Route 66" and is a new payload map in a sceneric desert environment. This map is the second one based in the USA.

Oher new additions include new skins for several heroes, as well as a new level system: From now on reaching level 100 resets you to level 1 and gives you a special border, showcasing your progress. Additionally there were massive changes to the "Play of the Game" calculation, which should lead to more varied highlights at the end of each game. To put the cherry on the top, we also got a new game mode, called "Brawl", where teams can battle it out with fun and alternative rulesets in a more casual enviroment.

Some highlights from the patch notes include:

Hero Balance Changes:

General:

  • The following hero abilities will now ignore payloads during Line of Sight checks:
    • Lúcio > Crossfade and Sound Barrier
    • Mei > Blizzard
    • Reinhardt > Earthshatter
    • Soldier: 76 > Biotic Field
    • Zenyatta > Transcendence

Zenyatta:

  • Orb of Harmony and Orb of Discord
    • Now automatically return if their targets are out of line of sight for more than 3 seconds

General Changes:

  • Achievements have been added
  • Players will now unlock a new portrait frame every 10 levels, instead of only at levels 10, 25, 50, and 100
  • Promotions have been added
    • Players will now receive a promotion every 100 levels
