In an exclusive interview with GosuGamers, Fnatic ONIC PH roamer Brusko talked about why they managed to beat Team Liquid ID thrice in the same tournament.
Fnatic ONIC PH won the M6 World Championship with one of the smoothest runs in the history of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports. They were just the second team to claim the MLBB world title through the upper bracket, notably winning every single match they played and dropping just five games throughout the entire tournament. The only other MLBB world champion that also came from the upper bracket was EVOS Legends at the M1 World Championship, who were coincidentally also crowned at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Following their victory, GosuGamers sat down with Borris James “Brusko” Parro, one of the core members of Fnatic ONIC PH. Playing as the team's roamer, he helped the team’s vision, strategy, and teamfight execution. We talked about their understanding of the metagame, how they were able to best Team Liquid ID not only once but thrice, and what he would do with his prize money.
The bond of the super family
One of the things that made Fnatic ONIC PH distinct from most other teams was how close the players are to each other. That bond was made manifest both inside and outside of the game. There was a memorable moment in game four of Fnatic ONIC PH's grand finals clash with Team Liquid ID where Frince Miguel “Super Frince” Ramirez was ganked, but Brusko was already ready to counter gank because he saw his mid lane positioning was a little bit off.
That bond was the key to Fnatic ONIC PH's victory against Team Liquid ID according to Brusko. He felt that their chemistry was better than their opponents and one of the biggest reasons why they were able to defeat the formidable champions of Indonesia thrice in the same tournament.
“I think [why we won is] because of our bonding and chemistry. We bond a lot inside and outside the game, so our chemistry is better than Team Liquid.”
Understanding the meta was one of the most crucial aspects every team needed to master. However, it was not as easy as flipping through a book as the meta changed rapidly over the course of any tournament. However, Brusko had another say regarding how one understands the meta.
“If your hero is on meta and you can’t execute with them, you can’t just win. I think it’s in the execution also. Even if your hero loses against the opponent, you can win if you can do better than your opponent.”
The M6 World Championship has, by far, the largest prize pool in the M World Championship Series to date. As the champions, Fnatic ONIC PH took home the lion's share of $300,000. When asked what he would do with his winnings, Brusko said he'll be using it for some wise investments instead of splurging on luxury.
“I think I’m going to invest it and buy a house”
The M6 World Championship marked the continuation of the Philippines' dominance over MLBB esports, with a Filipino team now winning the last five iterations of the M World Championship Series. It will be interesting to see if Fnatic ONIC PH's lineup will stay the same for the upcoming season or there will be a shakeup for the 2025 season.
