Team Indonesia dominates in the MLBB Women's event at the 32nd SEA Games

Today at the 32nd SEA Games we saw the Group Stage of the MLBB Women’s tournament come to an end, with two eliminations going into the playoffs.

With the continuation of the 32nd Southeast Asia Games from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, today we saw the beginning of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women’s event, as six teams from six regions went in search of a gold medal. The six teams; Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, were divided into two groups, with each team playing two best-of-one series to determine who would make it into the next round. Unfortunately for one team from each group, they would be eliminated and not be in contention for a medal placement.

Indonesia come out on top

As was expected in Group A, which featured ID, PH, and KH (Cambodia), it was the unstoppable Indonesian women’s squad which took the top spot, going 2-0 in their series. Unfortunately for the KH roster, an 11-minute defeat at the hands of PH, as well as a loss to ID would mean that they were eliminated from the event in front of their home ground support. The main series between PH and ID saw some picks which we have become very accustomed to in recent MPL tournaments, such as the Beatrix, Fredrinn, Yve, and Melissa. In the end, it was a comfortable victory for ID.

Having caught up with Coach Unida of the PH women’s roster, we asked them about their series against ID, as well as who they would like to face in the semi-finals:

We drafted around our win con (Beatrix and Pharsa) but we couldn't execute the plan against them. I believe the players are mature enough to bounce back and I will ensure that they are cheered up for the semi-final.

We hope to face against Team Malaysia, as they are a very strong team and we faced them in this year's MWI. We wish to play against them again. Team Laos would be cool too, as they are being talked about a lot now in the PH community.”

Laos eliminated

Unfortunately for Laos, in Group B, they would be the team that was eliminated, after two losses to both MY and VN. Although the team definitely had a ton of support from the fans in the venue, and were being hyped up by many other teams, they could not match the power from their opponents. In the final series, it was Team MY which managed to secure the top seed spot, as they blasted through the Vietnamese squad without too much effort.

This means that in the semi-finals later today, ID will face off against VN, while MY will have a matchup against PH. All the action from the 32nd SEA Game Women’s MLBB Tournament can be caught live on YouTube, with the semi-finals coming up in just a short while.
