In an interesting turn of events, fortniteMan continues to be the bane of new OG rosters looking to qualify for tournaments.
Renown Dota 2 organisation OG failed in their first attempt to qualify for a tournament after reforming their roster three days ago. The anticipated debut of the new-look OG squad saw them crash out of both DreamLeague Season 26 Western European Open Qualifiers (OQ), not even making it to the tournament's Closed Qualifiers.
And in what feels like deja vu, OG notably lost against Mykhailo “fortniteMan” Pylypenko’s team for the second time this year.
OG crash out of DreamLeague Season 26 Open Qualifiers
OG, fielding three trial players in Stefan “Ulnit” Gavrila,
Cedric “Davai Lama” Deckmyn, and
Ivan “Kidaro” Bondarev, only had to win two series in either one of the OQs to advance to the Closed Qualifiers for DreamLeague Season 26. The first OQ offered two slots to advance to the Closed Qualifier, while the second offered one. In hindsight, it seemed like an easy path for OG to make it through, at least to the Closed Qualifier. However, the team flunked in both.
The first OQ saw OG lose in the first round to Mafia Power, a Bulgarian stack led by The International (TI) 2017 champion, Ivan “MinD_ContRoL” Borislavov Ivanov. In their next attempt, OG had a better start, winning their first round against End Game, yet again another stack with MinD_Control plus known Georgian pros
Lasha “Nande” Narsia and
Irakil “W1sh” Peranidze.
But OG met their demise after facing a no-name Eastern European stack in Bikini Bottom. Interestingly, the roster fielded fortniteMan, a Ukrainian player who had upset OG back-to-back in the DreamLeague Season 24 qualifiers back in September 2024, ultimately securing him his first big tournament appearance.
With OG's three new players only on trial and no more tournaments or qualifiers available to them until May, it remains to be seen if the organisation will stick with this roster or undergo another rebuild.
Another win for fortniteMan
Following the two-time upset against the two-time TI champions last year, fortniteMan became a meme legend, with fans, audience, and even casters alike celebrating his name. This knock-out against OG in the DreamLeague Season 26 qualifier boosts his charm even further, as he takes down the household name for the third time.
The DreamLeague Season 26 Closed Qualifiers will pit Tundra Esports,
AVULUS,
Gaimin Gladiators,
Natus Vincere Junior,
Passion UA,
Zero Tenacity (OQ #1), Capy Baras (OQ #1), and one more team from OQ #2, with three slots to the main tournament up for grabs.
