BetBoom Team win FISSURE Universe: Episode 4 with sweep over Gaimin Gladiators

After a shaky performance in the Group Stage, BetBoom lost just one game in the Playoff en route to the championship.

Eastern European Dota 2 powerhouse BetBoom Team claimed the championship of FISSURE Universe: Episode 4 after they capped off a dominant run in the tournament's Playoffs – only dropping one game en route to the title – with a 3-0 sweep over Western Europe's Gaimin Gladiators in the grand finals on Monday (31 March).

With their victory, BetBoom claimed the grand prize of US$250,000 out of the tournament's US$500,000 prize pool. This also marks their first tournament win of the year and their second as an organisation following their victory at BLAST Slam I in December 2024.

Meanwhile, Gaimin Gladiators settle for second place and US$100,000 in consolation. This is now their second runner-up placement in a tournament this year after losing to Tundra Esports in the grand finals of BLAST Slam II in February.

BetBoom win FISSURE Universe: Episode 4 with 3-0 sweep over Gaimin Gladiators

BetBoom's triumph in FISSURE Universe: Episode 4 was an unexpected result when considering their shaky performance in the Swiss format Group Stage. The team started their campaign with a surprising 0-2 loss to BOOM Esports before bouncing back with wins overM80 and Night Pulse. A 0-2 loss to Team Liquid in the fourth round then put them at risk of missing the Playoffs altogether, but they managed to advance to the next stage with a 2-1 victory over Aurora Gaming in the fifth and final round of the Group Stage.

Gaimin Gladiators were another unlikely pick to be a grand finalist, as they also had to go through all five rounds to make it to the Playoffs. They started strong with back-to-back wins over M80 and Team Falcons, only to suffer two straight losses to Team Spirit and PARIVISION to fall at risk of an early elimination. With that said, the Gladiators bounced back by sweeping 1win Team to make it to the Playoffs.

Having to go through all five rounds of the Group Stage seems to have reinvigorated the eventual grand finalists, as they both won their first two matches of the Playoffs to meet for the first time in the upper bracket finals. BetBoom scored back-to-back sweeps over Spirit and Team Tidebound while Gaimin Gladiators took down Liquid in three games before sweeping Falcons.

Gaimin Gladiators held the upper hand to start the upper bracket finals after comfortably winning the opening game of the series. However, a resilient BetBoom squad pulled off a 2-1 reverse sweep to claim the first spot in the grand finals. Gaimin Gladiators then pulled off their own verse sweep over Tidebound in the lower bracket finals to earn a rematch with BetBoom in the championship round.

While the first encounter between BetBoom and Gaimin Gladiators in the upper bracket finals was a relatively competitive affair, the grand finals proved to be anything but. All three games in the championship round were one-sided stomps that saw BetBoom simply outplay their opponents and score triple the kills that Gaimin Gladiators could manage.

Game one featured a masterful performance from Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko on Templar Assassin, as he racked up a clean 14 kills and 13 assists to help BetBoom start the grand finals strong up 30-10 in kills in 36 minutes of action.

Danil “gpk” Skutin then took the spotlight in game two as Tiny, finishing with 13 kills and 15 assists on three deaths to pace BetBoom's 36-11 kill lead in 35 minutes. Pure on Monkey King added nine kills and 17 assists on two deaths while Matvey “MieRo” Vasyunin on Centaur Warrunner had seven kills and 17 assists on just one death.

Showstopping performances from Pure on Gyrocopter and Vitalie “Save-” Melnic on Ringmaster then allowed BetBoom to secure the 3-0 grand finals sweep in a 41-minute rout. Pure notched a series-high 18 kills to go with 17 assists on three deaths to fuel his team's 47-14 kill lead in the closeout game. Save also pitched in with 10 kills and 26 assists on four deaths.
