T1 managed to wipe out G2 Esports 3-0 in the highly-anticipated rematch between both sides at the Mid-Season Invitational.
The rematch between T1 and G2 Esports swung completely in one direction today as the defending world champions came out on top to eliminate the LEC's last hope. While G2 kept it close by taking it to Silver Scrapes in the first series, they could get through today and have since left the tournament in a respectable fourth-place finish.
As for T1, they have solidified a top-three finish at the Mid-Season Invitational with their next best-of-five up against Bilibili Gaming in the lower bracket final. Depending on the outcome of the series, the winner will move on to face Gen.G Esports in the grand finals. T1 will have the chance to make it to an all-LCK grand final, which has never happened before at MSI.
Game one between the two teams was very much one-sided towards T1 as they were able to make the most out of G2's bad positioning. This led to T1 winning most of its team fights and allowed them to easily secure objectives like pushing down turrets or claiming a drake. This also paved the way for Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong to have a flawless performance with Kalista where he secured eight kills and five assists for himself.
But despite the first game loss, G2 came out strong in the second game as they were able to go toe-to-toe against T1. G2 was able to contest two out of the four drakes but what they had in team fights, they lacked in pushing power. Rasmus “Caps” Winther was a joy to behold as his Aurelion Sol had the highest damage output out of anyone else in the second game. But alas, it still wasn't enough to stop T1 from taking key objectives whenever a team fight went its way.
Despite lacking in raw damage output, T1 has always been strong when it came to split-pushing the lanes back and was able to keep G2 on its feet even when they were behind. The third and final game of the series was another closely fought match as both teams refused to budge. G2's lineup was able to nullify T1 in certain areas but it could not hold on for much longer, especially with Choi “Zeus” Woo-je on Rumble.
He had the highest damage output out of anyone in the match with Steven “Hans sama” Liv coming in second with Varus while Sang-hyeok “Faker” Lee came in third. Faker's Taliyah was also instrumental in T1 getting themselves over the finish line as the acclaimed mid-laner was able to keep Caps' Tristana under wraps for most of the match.
