Marvel Rivals confirms US$6 costume customisation, swimsuit skins on the way

Marvel Rivals is getting costume recolours and swimsuit skins.

Marvel Rivals is getting recoloured skins, but players aren’t happy about it. Via new patchnotes for the game, NetEase Games has unveiled the addition of “Costume Colours” for your favourite in-game heroes. While players have to pay extra for these Costume Colours (on top of the original skin itself), they will then be able to customise the colours of their skins freely. It’s almost like Overwatch 2’s Mythic skins in concept, only a lot more dressed down.

Marvel Rivals announces costume customisation

If you’re already getting tired of your favourite Marvel Rivals skins, here’s some good news: you might be able to swap around their colour palettes in future updates. NetEase revealed that its new Costume Colours feature is arriving during the game’s ongoing Hellfire Gala season, but it currently only applies to a few specific skins: Mirae 2099 (Luna Snow), Punkchild (Magik), Blood Soldier (Winter Soldier), and Vengeance (Psylocke).

However, there is one catch: to get these skins, you’ll have to pick up 600 unstable molecules, an all-new in-game currency specific to Costume Colours–as if the game didn’t have enough currency types as it is. 600 Unstable Molecules can be purchased at a one-to-one conversion rate with 600 Lattice, amounting to US$6 of real-world money.

That’s pretty pricey for a single skin recolour, especially considering that players also have to pay for the original skin itself. However, players online are less concerned with the price, and more concerned with the game’s steadily-expanding list of currencies; there are now four currency types for players to funnel their real-world money into, including Lattice, Unstable Molecules, Chrono Tokens, and Units.

Reddit user NanayaAri argues “Tbh they should just let us use units instead [of] adding 1 more unnecessary currency. Seriously, what is even the point for that?” Twitter/X user Genevieve also posits that this isn’t exactly the level of customisation players were hoping for: “Only having one palette to one specific outfit at the moment isn't really the customisation we were promised. Why not let us have all 4 palettes for each outfit right off the bat?”

That's not all, though.

Marvel Rivals is also getting swimsuit skins

This week, Marvel Comics also unveiled the return of its annual Marvel Swimsuit Special on 9 July, 2025. This year, the comic is titled Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes & Rivals, with a story written by Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs, and art by Nick Bradshaw, among others.

Interestingly, the comic’s official description also confirms that it will feature “designs for new costumes coming soon to the Marvel Rivals.” This, in turn, confirms that Marvel Rivals is officially getting summer-themed swimsuit skins, and players can get a first look at them via the comic’s preview art.

Here’s how Marvel describes the upcoming Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes & Rivals:

Roxxon Comics is at it again when they release their own UNAUTHORIZED SWIMSUIT SPECIAL! Wasp is on the case and seizes the opportunity for Marvel’s heroes to do their OWN swimwear fashion shoot all over the world! But fear not, True Believers, we know what you’re REALLY here for! This super-sized special features splash page after splash page of gorgeous art, but with a story so you can pretend you’re “reading it for the articles”…
