DWG.KIA is looking good ahead of the 2023 season.
The Worlds 2020 champions are looking to take the LCK by storm next season, signing Kim "Canna" Chang-dong from Nongshim RedForce as well as Worlds 2022 champion, Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu. Having already lost both their toplaners as well as Seo "deokdam" Dae-gil, Canna and Deft will be the ideal replacements to bring DWG back to the summit of the LCK.
Earlier this week, both DRX and NS RedForce announced that their entire rosters are now free agents. With the latter promoting their entire Challenger squad to the main lineup, it is the former where many are still unclear of what their future may be. Given that DRX is also the current reigning champion, it will be interesting to see who they will bring in.
As for DWG, they will be delighted at acquiring two top players from around the LCK. Deft already needs no introduction after carrying DRX to their first-ever Summoner's Cup title. Canna is another player that many will be familiar with after starting with T1 in his debut season. Both players will bring some much-needed stability and a specific playstyle to the squad.
Despite being one of the LCK's top teams, DWG stagnated this year, ending their three consecutive regional titles. However, one of the reasons could be that both Gen.G Esports and T1 stepped up their game this year with both teams claiming this year's spring and summer titles. While DWG did manage to still make it to Worlds after winning the LCK Regional Finals, they could only make it to the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
With the addition of Deft, DWG will now have one of the best AD carry players in the LCK as well as the rest of the world. Throw in Heo "ShowMaker" Su and Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu and it's a recipe for a world-class team. With the likes of Kim "Kellin" Hyeong-gyu as well as Canna to round it off, DWG could very well challenge for the top spot once again.
