Challenger Team Spotlight: Gamers2

Gamers2 is a Spanish organisation, that debuted in the eSports scene with a challenger roster of well known and experienced players. They focused on finding players with previous experience, and handpicked a roster that seemed to integrate seamlessley, arguably revolving around their most experienced and well known player, Ocelote. The organisation set the standards and expectations high, moving all of the players into a gaming house (An act that only the top challenger organisations can afford and would be willing to do) and releasing a set of videos to hype the team up.

Roster

Sweden Top - Jesper "Jwaow" Strandgren

Spain Jungle - Sebastián "Morden" Esteban Fernández

Spain Mid - Carlos "Ocelote" Rodríguez Santiago

France Marksman - Soler "Yuuki60" Florent

France Support - Hugo "Dioud" Padioleau

Gamers2 Have proven to be mainly successful, placing 1st and 2nd in various challenger events, such as the Solomid EU Invitationals, and KaosTV's EUW Challenger Series, however tend to fall short to the more established and higher performing challenger teams, such as former LCS team Ninjas In Pyjamas, and powerhouse Cloud 9 Eclipse. This weakness has plagued their performance in the official Riot EU Challenger League. During the Spring EU Challenger Series #1 play-in, the team beat Spina Gaming, only to fall short of expectations by losing out to Team Kappa Prime, resulting in gaining 0 points towards making it into the playoffs. During the second Spring Challenger Series however, Gamers2 vanquished both Team Profile and mYi to make it past the play-in, and into the points, although their streak was ended early, with an unfortunate seeding against the former LCS team NiP, losing 2-1, earning themselves only 2 points and ending their hopes of an LCS promotion.

The Players

Jesper "Jwaow" Strandgren

Jesper "Jwaow" Strandgren is the Top Lane player for Gamers2. Jwaow has played alongside some well known and highly successful players in his career, but has never participated in the Championship Series. Jwaow formerly played for the team Peculiar Gaming, where he played alongside German Jungler Maurice "Amazing" Stückenschneider, a player that found success on the LCS team Copenhagen Wolves, and was a highly sought after player as he was acquired by North American stars Team Solomid. After the Peculiar Gaming roster was released, Jwoaw joined TCM Gaming,  alongside the well known Spanish player Mario "Motroco" Martínez García, who came close to gaining  the chance of LCS qualification. TCM however placed 2-3 in the round robin format of the promotion tournament, narrowly missing out on the chance of playing the bottom 3 placing LCS teams. The roster was later released, and Jwaow joined Gamers2.

Jwoaw mainly brings the current standard of tanks to the top lane, as fitting with the tanky top lane meta, such as Shyvana, Renekton and Trundle. He also likes to bring more damage based champions to the field when possible, such as bruisers like Irelia and Jax

Sebastián "Morden" Esteban Fernández

Sebastían "Morden" Esteban Fernández is a part of the Spanish duo playing for Gamers2, filling in the Jungler role. Morden is an experienced player, with his most notable achievement being his role played in the qualification and LCS split of GIANTS! Gaming. The Giants managed an impressive 4-0 sweep to earn their place in the LCS, however their performance over the split proved to be lackluster, eventually falling into 7th place, and being knocked out by the hungry Challenger team Alternate, featuring fellow spanish Jungler Araneae. During the summer, Mordens contract was not renewed, signalling his leaving of the team before joining Dimegio Club and eventually, Gamers2.

Morden is known for his Volibear and Elise in solo queue, however currently posts brilliant results on his long time favourite champion Elise, and also showing his mastery for Lee Sin.

Carlos "Ocelote" Rodríguez Santiago

If you don't recognise Carlos "Ocelote" Rodríguez Santiago, you're either new to the LoL eSports scene, or you've been living under a rock since its inception. Ocelote has been one of the most famous personalities in League of Legends, being a popular streamer and also for his time as the Mid Laner for the top European team SK Gaming (And scarf collection). Carlos has bucketloads of experience, playing in top tournaments before the birth of the LCS, playing for 2 splits of the Championship Series, and the only player on the Gamers2 roster to have participated in a World Championship. After leaving SK and joining Gamers2, Ocelote has provided the most presence, living up to his streaming background by being the most active and grossing streamer from the Gamers2 house.

Ocelote has favoured long range mage champions and AP assassins during his career and also during his time on Gamers2. He has found success on champions such as Gragas and Orianna, however more recently has put champions like Nidalee, LeBlanc and Kassadin to good use, with opponents fearing and banning them away from him.

Soler "Yuuki60" Florent

Taking on the marksman role for Gamers2 is one half of the French botlane, Soler "Yuuki60" Florent. Yuuki is one of the more unknown players on the roster for Gamers2, having never played a single split in the LCS. Yuuki did play for the Challenger team Salade Tomate Oignon alongside the current Copenhagen Wolves Jungler Karim "Aïrwaks" Benghalia, however the team disbanded due to a falure to be promoted to the LCS, and later Yuuki joined Gamers2.

Yuuki mainly prioritises Marksmen such as Lucian and Jinx, due to the popularity of these champions, however constantly draws bans for his Sivir. Although he hasnt played the champion extensively in big games, he has been focusing a lot on Twitch in his solo queue games, probably due to the popularity of the champion in the current state of the game.

Hugo "Dioud" Padioleau

Finally, completing the roster with the Support role, is the other half of the French bottom lane, Hugo "Dioud" Padioleau. Like Morden and Ocelote, Dioud also has Championship Series experience, as he played a split for against All authority alongside current SK Gaming Top lane player Fredy122. After aAa's relegation and eventual disbanding, Dioud joined a Millenium roster along with aAa Mid laner ShLaYa, where they placed 1st at the 2013 WCG France Qualifier. After Milleniums disbanding and acquiring of LCS team Alternate, Dioud joined Gamers2.

Dioud currently prefers supports with heavy CC such as Leona and Thresh, while also highly prioritising Morgana, due to her popularity as a counter to these champions.

Gamers2 look to be much stronger in the Summer split, having already beaten teams such as Balkan Bears and Heavy Botlane to make it past the play-in stage of the tournament, and beating Shantao Macht Wau to pass into the semi final stage vs NiP. Gamers2 are without a doubt in the top half of teams in the challenger scene, however they may need to step up their play in order to beat the top teams such as NiP and SK Prime, who also look to be very strong and similar resources.
