Konami unveils eerie trailer for Japan-set Silent Hill f, featuring the wrong kind of face peel

Konami is finally ready to show off more of the next mainline Silent Hill game.

Konami first unveiled its next Silent Hill game, entitled Silent Hill f, all the way back in 2022 as part of a major revival of the iconic survival-horror franchise. This week, the game publisher hosted a Silent Hill Transmissions livestream to dive deeper into the upcoming Silent Hill game, which is set in rural Japan all the way back in the 1960s.

Here’s the game’s latest trailer, but beware: it’s spooky.

Silent Hill f unveils creepy new trailer and story description

Back in 2022, Konami announced a big revival of its long-dormant horror franchise Silent Hill, consisting of four projects: a remake of Silent Hill 2, the now-critically reviled online game Silent Hill Ascension, Annapurna Interactive’s Silent Hill: Townfall, and an all-new mainline installment called Silent Hill f. This week, we finally got more information on the latter game, which was first unveiled with a creepy trailer that ended with someone’s face peeling off. Spoiler alert: this week’s trailer ends pretty much the same way.

Here’s Konami’s description for the game, according to Steam:

In 1960s Japan, Shimizu Hinako's secluded town of Ebisugaoka is consumed by a sudden fog, transforming her home into a haunting nightmare. As the town falls silent and the fog thickens, Hinako must navigate the twisted paths of Ebisugaoka, solving complex puzzles and confronting grotesque monsters to survive.

Immerse yourself into Hinako's world imagined by renowned author Ryukishi07, with entrancing music, including pieces by Akira Yamaoka, and beautiful visuals in a gripping tale of doubt, regret, and inescapable choices. Will Hinako embrace the beauty hidden within terror, or succumb to the madness that lies ahead? Discover a new chapter in the SILENT HILL series, blending psychological horror with a haunting Japanese setting.

More details for Silent Hill f unveiled during the Silent Hill Transmissions livestream

Instead of taking place in the titular Silent Hill, a town that tends to morph in shape and size depending on its unfortunate visitors, the game will take players to a town called Ebisugaoka in 1960s Japan. It’ll remain plenty familiar for fans of the franchise, not just because of its town setting, but also due to the return of Silent Hill series composer Akira Yamaoka. Yamaoka will compose music for the town’s Fog World, while Kensuke Inage composes music for its Otherworld.

This is par for the course for this franchise – players have always bounced between alternate versions of SIlent Hill in past games. The Fog World is a little calmer, albeit still filled with monsters and maze-like streets, while the Otherworld offers a more twisted and cerebral take on the main town’s environments.

According to the Silent Hill Transmission presentation, Konami wants to present beauty in terror with this game. Hence, the colourful plants and flower motifs overlaid over haunting imagery of monsters, blood, and empty streets. With any luck, the game will see Konami continue a positive streak with this franchise, starting with the release of Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2.

Silent Hill f launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game has no release date for now.
