New story trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows dives into a land in turmoil
Ubisoft has released a story trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the next mainline installment of its open-world action-RPG franchise. This time around, players will step into the shoes of two distinct protagonists: a stealthy shinobi named Naoe and a mighty samurai named Yasuke.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set in 1579, during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. In this story campaign, Daimyo Oda Nobunaga has set out to unify Japan at a brutal cost, using his samurai to slay countless innocents in an effort to see his vision through. Amidst this chaos, Japan has become fractured by war and is now vulnerable to the threat of foreign influences.
The story trailer sheds light on Naoe and Yasuke’s individual backstories, which eventually lead to their intertwined fates. Naoe appears to be a Hidden One, judging by her possession of a Hidden Blade. Someone Naoe cared for was slain by a samurai, bringing her into conflict with Yasuke - who is having doubts about his Daimyo’s vision for Japan. After a brief battle, Yasuke recognises her Hidden Blade, and the two resolve to reshape Japan’s future together.
Pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Shadows are now open, including the game’s Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Editions. Anyone who pre-orders the game will gain free access to the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion, which is set to launch later in 2025 with more than 10 hours of new content and a new open-world region.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on March 20, 2025.
